SSD as a boot drive installation

Okay so now I'm deciding to install a SSD to my asus g73 as a boot drive. Unfortunately, I have everything installed right now on my 500gb hard drive and I know I have to reinstall everything. I have the recovery disks made from the first time I booted up the laptop. Can anyone provide me specific steps to install the SSD and use the recovery disk? thanks 😄

Depending on what manufacturer you got the SSD from, they usually have their own verson of Acronis True Image to copy everything from that 500GB drive to the SSD. Hope this helps. Thankz and GOD Bless.

what if i dont want all the music and everything to be copied onto the SSD? i just want the OS and some of the software copied onto there. Is there an option for that?

It's possible to do a clean install following this guide and using ABR to backup and restore current activation of windows. READ CAREFULLY, must install SAME VERSION and do NOT enter serial code during install, uncheck automatic activation (all said in guide below):
http://directedge.us/node/24

Dont forget to backup up your windows activation first!!! (ABR is found here: http://directedge.us/content/abr-activation-backup-and-restore )

You will find true images of win7 installations on this link. Follow instructions to make install disc for any win7 version:

It's legal files, no worries. After installation restore your windows activation with ABR, then run the ASUS installation disc and check whatever ASUS utilities and drivers you like.

That's how I did it on my g73jw on a OCX Vertex 2 SSD.

Check out the following posts on notebookreview.com:

This thread details how to disassemble the G53 and install an SSD as the boot drive. It should be very similar to the G73.

Then, this thread offers a *very detailed* guide to installing Windows 7. There is another thread referenced in the 4th paragraph that has good explanations of the various ASUS drivers/apps/bloatware that you may or may not want to install.

If you've got time on your hands and don't mind taking your laptop apart twice, it may be worthwhile to install the SSD without the original hard drive when you reinstall Windows to ensure that is installed to the right drive.

And finally, this thread explains how to ensure the SSD is performing optimally.
