Duel booting xp and w7 on crosshair v formula

Hello I'm new forgive me if this is the wrong forum or been asked before. I'm looking to set up my system as a duel boot with windows 7 ultimate and windows xp. U have tried a few versions of xp alot seem to blue screen while it is loading the drivers ect just before you can choose which hard drive to install it on. One I used did install but when I used the acpi tweak it then refuses to boot into xp. I have had no problems with my windows 7 partition.

    My specs are

    Xfx 5870
    Amd phenom 955 quad core
    Crucial 128gb ssd m4
    Samsung f1 1 tb hd
    850watt power supply
    Crosshair formula v
    Vengeance — 16GB Dual Channel DDR3 Memory Kit (CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9B)
Also have a wd raptor 74 which I was looking to install xp on as I here ssd and xp don't mix.

    Think that's everything

    Thanks in advance.

In the BIOS, where you can play with the settings for the SATA ports, to install windows XP you need to set the port that has the drive you wish to install XP on, set as IDE as it won't work in AHCI mode

Yes AHCI will work on windows XP but they tell you it has to be Service Pack 2 or Better in your manual but I've had problems with SP2 and come to realize it has to be a fully updated SP2 First so I use SP3 and have no problems at all...I have a Install with SP3 NLighted to it.
Now why are you trying to Dual Boot? is it for the speed or something because with Win7 Pro/Ultimate you have the XP Mode that works just fine for me and runs even my older games that are not capable of running 7's compatibility mode just fine.

might be where i was going wrong using a sp2 copy of windows, and am i right in thinking the xp mode for win7 is just virtualbox? looking to have an xp partion for some older games they dont seem to run that great on win7 so wanted to test out running them on xp with some added tweaks.
