Issues with MIVE + 3770k and BIOS 3202+3208 issues with 2600k

Hi all, first post here, figured this would be the best place to go to vent this issue.

I have had a terrible time with my MIVE and the 3770k that I just purchased.

Sunday morning I updated to the latest BIOS posted on Asus's site (3208) and did a cmos reset and swapped out my 2600k [worked with 0 issues] and popped in the 3770k. (of note, I've now tried the 3202 BIOS as well and the same issues persisted, including the 2600k voltage issue below)

Quick note regarding the BIOS update with the 2600k. After flashing I booted into Windows and found that despite the CPU speed and voltage being set at Auto it was putting 1.49v into the 2600k. (note, I am in the process of changing it to a safer 1.3 at time of the screenshot). The number is reflected with CPU-Z in windows and in the BIOS under voltage monitoring as well.

Now for issues with the 3770k:
First of all It won't boot with rated speeds on this memory (it would work on the 2600k no problem): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231454

Which from what I can tell it is PSC per a thread on XS. The 1866 divider is the highest I can consistently booth with [haven't tried messing with bclk]. The fastest I can get it to boot is DDR3-2000 - which sometimes gives an F2 debug code. If I try 2133 or try using the XMP profile or set it up myself via the rated timings I just get debug code '23'. I tried looking in the manual for that code but I can't find anything directly stating 23 unless maybe I am blind. I've tried VCCIO up to 1.2v and VCCSA from Auto to 1.15v and it didn't make a difference.

Anyone have any ideas? Or am I stuck buying an MVG and selling my MIVE?

The voltage issue has already been addressed in a beta version that I have been testing, the problem is that when you change the 'Ai Overclock Tuner' setting from 'Auto' to either Manual or XMP and/or change the memory frequency the 'Auto' Vcore would then jump to 1.48v+ the only fix for it is to set voltage manually after changing the above settings.
This issue has been resolved in the Beta version I am currently running so expect a Bios update shortly.

Awesome, thank you very much for the info.

What you said makes a lot of sense with regard to changing those settings.

Do you think i just have a terrible IMC on the 3770k that it can't boot past 1866?

23 - OEM pre-memory initialization codes Is to do with the how the IMC recognises the RAM.

I have a set of Gskill super PI that will run 2400 cas 6 on my X79 but will not post at all on my MVG so I do not post with those sticks and use others.

I think it is your ram that does not like the board. What you can do is have a look at the ram setting pages. Take a FAT formatted usb stick and pop it in your system. F12 to take a screenshot of your BIOS and post back here.

    Thank you for the reply.

The RAM has worked fine with the board for about a year with my 2600k (reaching up to 2273 at 7-10-7-27-1T with some mild testing). The major limitation appears to be either how the board handles having the IB CPU installed [as I had a weird issue with both of my displays going into power save when Windows would load after I installed the 3770k, again an issue I have never seen with the 2600k).

I'm hoping that the IMC on the 3770k isn't garbage, I will have my MVG in today newegg so I can test that out and I will take some screenshots as well.

Just to give an update, I've tested with M5G and it worked out just fine. The RAM was read correctly, I was able to manually set the RAM timings, use the XMP profile, and got it to boot at up to 2400mhz (rated at 2200). at 7-11-7-28-1t

So it appears to be some sort of incompatibility between the 3770k, the MIVE, and the RAM. The RAM and the MIVE worked just fine with a 2600k, but that 3770k just would not play well.

The MIVE board will be getting a couple of BIOS updates in the near future I am sure. So the best advice I can give now is just hang in there mate. Not ideal but....

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it.

Now if only the MVG had the Marvell raid controller so that I could just plug in my 2-1TB drives that I have in Raid0 into it and just continue. Now I have to find a way to get the data copies off

Thanks again for your help, I'll keep my eyes out for a new BIOS to test as well.
