Clean ATI Driver Install

Retired
Not applicable
I had myself some serious driver issues a while back when I updated the HD5870M drivers to an unsupported version. Not always the best thing to do, and in this case it went quite pear shaped. I was unable to rollback the drivers so this is the process I went through to get my JH back up and running:

NOTE: You don't need to do this to update the drivers, it's only a last resort.

1. Uninstall all ATI programs through Control Panel.

2. Run Driver Sweeper followed by CCleaner.

3. Reboot in safe mode and repeat step 2.

4. Search for any remaining files starting with "ati" within:
C:\Program Files\ATI
C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies
C:\Program Files (x86)
C:\Windows\System32\drivers
C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository

*There will always be one file you can't delete atiesrxx.exe

5. Using services.msc stop "AMD External Events Utility", then close it.

6. Delete it through cmd console (sc delete "AMD External Events Utility")
* This should delete atiesrxx.exe, open services.msc again to check.

7. Run CCleaner one last time.

8. Reboot and reinstall the last known working drivers.

This fixed my issues, hope this can help somone else.

ATI Crap Cleaner would have automated all that 🙂
