    Exclamation Maximus V Won't Post

    Hey Everyone,

I recently purchased a Maximus V Gene from the egg. I'm pairing it with a 3750k and Samsung's 30nm ram. Finally put it together last night and it wasn't posting. It turned on, but it started up as though it had encountered a BIOS error and required me to enter the BIOS recovery setup. So after pressing F1 like it told me to, I just get a blank screen.

I called up Asus tech support and they told me that it might be a bad board. They recommended that I reset the CMOS the battery to see if that would fix it. It did not. I then tried reseating the ram. That didn't work. I tried booting it with only one stick. That didn't work either.

Any other tips before filing an RMA?

What monitor is the board connected to and which output are you using (DVI or HDMI)?

Which POST code is displayed on the onboard Hex LED display when you are sitting at the blank screen?

For now, use a single memory module in the slot furthest from the CPU.

List full system specs mate then maybe we can help more. Like Raja says the post code display will tell us alot about the problem. Have you tried with only one stick furthest from CPU??

I just did that and still nothing. Although the board code now changes to "A2."

I'm using a dell monitor attached to hdmi on the board using internal graphics.

    Full Spec:
    CPU: i5-3750k
    MB: Asus Maximus V Gene
    Cooler: Phanteks ph-tc14pe
    GPU: Integrated (for now)
RAM: Samsung 30nm Green Memory 8gb

And yes I tried moving the stick to the farthest end of the board and it still won't post.

When I first put together the build, I was using a brand new SSD and an old 2tb drive. The Asus tech rep said that the board was trying to use an old bios from the old drive. So I disconnected it and only booted up the board with the SSD, but still no go.

Can you swap the hdmi output to a standard dvi output? Some lcds will not post at first and will only come on once windows starts to boot and loads the driver. Try that and see if it then shows a screen. Thanks

I can't because I'm using onboard intel graphics and the board only has hdmi output

Yep at A2 you are actually in UEFI, this means your dell monitor in not compatible with the default output res of UEFI via onboard graphics for whatever reason. Which model is it?

Flash with this build using USB BIOS flashback and it will solve the issue.

    That's amazing!

I plugged it into another monitor and it worked! It was working all along!

    Thanks everyone!

Now for some reason it doesn't want to post when I populate all DIMM slots. I'm using samsung 30nm green memory. It only posts if I populate the last two furthest away from the CPU. When I turn on the computer with all of them populated I get QCode 55 - RAM not installed.

    Any help with this?
