Thread: G55 Series Notebook Graphics question

    G55 Series Notebook Graphics question

I am getting ready to purchase a G55 series from xoticpc, custom out with a 3rd Generation Intel® Ivy Bridge Core™ i7-3920XM Extreme Edition cpu and I see that the G55 comes with the 660m graphics gpu. Xoticpc does not show an option to upgrade the gpu, I was just wandering if anyone knows if the 660m in this laptop is user upgradable, or should I go with the G75 that has the 670m in it. I am not worried about battery or heat just power, and since I am spending over 3 grand on this thing I want the specs to be still high end for at least 5 years. I really dont want a 17" but if it is that much of a difference then thats what I will do. I know this probably isnt possible but I would like it to be upgradable to a newer gpu if a better one comes out in a year or two, I think sager allows users to upgrade the gpu but I havnt found anything about the g55. So if anyone has any idea about this please help me. I am pretty new into this whole pc gaming world and am starting to really love it.

The 660m in the g75 is modular so it might be in te g55. Funny enough i just ordered my g75vw ds71 from them. They can probqbly tell just hop in the chat and ask. Got to sales not support:

Thanks for the reply, I will go ask them. One more question. I know that probably this sounds a little crazy but as I mentioned in the post that I want this to be somewhat future proof, I know Windows 8 is due out sometime late this year. There should be no problem getting all the drivers for the g55 after Win 8 is released, should it?

OK I spoke with xoticpc and they told me that the Asus G series gpu are not user upgradable. So one more question. Do you think that Asus will release the g55 with a better gpu sometime this year or should I just go ahead with this? This is what I am cosidering: How future proof do you all think this machine will be?

everything looks pretty good, but the 660M is slower than the GTX 560M from what I have seen on other forums......... If your not in a rush, I would save your money and wait.

It is not slower. The fermi's drivers have matured while the kepler stuff is still brand new.

There's currently no plan to release a revised G55 with another GPU sorry.
