    P9X79 PRO, i7 3930K too hot and crash in 3DMark 11

    Hi

I have 2 OC profiles that I'm using right now for my i7 3930K cooling by D14

    1) @4.2GHz @"Manual" 1.25 vcore @70-72C on Prime95(3 hrs)
    2) @4.5GHz @"Offset" +0.1 vcore(CPU-Z shown 1.46-1.47 on vcore) @87-90C on Prime95(3 hrs)

The thing is.. I have 2 concerns

    1) Is there anyway to lower the temp with 4.5GHz profile? 90C is kinda worries me.
    2) I can run 3DMark on 4.2GHz profile, score is P17272 but I cannot run it on 4.5GHz profile. It crashes every time on the "Physics Test"(CPU test). How do I solve this problem?

    Thank you

I'm a month late but...you need liquid CPU cooler for that processor.

    Tested

This is a fact. A stock cooler wont get much out of that CPU. I have the same CPU and can run that benchmark at 4.5 no issue only with water.

As you are using an Noctua NH-D14 you should be able to reach 4.5Ghz. The reason why the CPU test is failing in 3DMark is because the OC is not completely stable.

    Thy this:

Install latest BIOS then restore BIOS to default settings. Leaving everything on "Auto", simply change the multiplier to x45 then press F10 the save and exit. Doing this will load in our pre-optimized OC settings.

When it crashes in 3D mark do you get BSOD??? what exactly happens ??? does this throw up a code?? From this we can help you more.

Use manual Vcore for benching Offset is not ideal for this stuff.

That voltage is high for 4.5GHz I would try an offset of +0.01(better +0.005 or better still -0.005) not 0.1! Maybe you are shutting down due to a hot VRM? you need to cool the VRMs if you are OCing.

Ditto, voltage way too high for 4.5ghz. You need serious cooling for voltages over 1.4v. An average chip should need between 1.3 and 1.4 to do 4.5ghz. If you absolutely need 1.45v for 4.5 I suggest you drop your speed.
