    Intel Sandy Bridge Recall

EDIT: DOH! Posted under motherboard section already....

Intel is recalling Sandy Bridge chips. No instructions released yet but it looks like chip and motherboard replacement. Article says it'll cost Intel roughly 700 million dollars.

It's just the motherboard, there is a problem with the companion chip in the chipset. An issue of SATA degrading over time, so no immediate issues. I'm paying attention to all of this though, just ordered the parts for a build for my manager at work and he's getting a P8H67-M Pro/CSM. It'll be interesting to see how Intel has ASUS and other companies handle this.

Yeah I'll still run mine until official instructions come out. My 2nd 2600k shipped this morning. Looks like I'll be waiting to purchase a board.

What's funny is that intel found the issue 3 week after releasing the chipset in internal testing. Congrat's intel not doing proper testing before shipping thing. Now, talking by experience, it's definatly going to cost over 700 million. I fail to find a recall that cost under the estimated cost. THen there will probably be few lawsuit from some fag and maybe some manufacturer will ask for some money for the butt pain.

Not a big problem. Just use the sata3 ports until the replacement boards come in

It might be hard to find out these problems since they are projecting 5-15% failure rate around 3 years of usage. I'm sure Intel has extensive use of R&D to find these problems, but I guess this one slipped through. Just be glad Intel is the one coming out with a solution in place for us and they are footing the bill for the replacement chips. They could have just kept it a secret and tried to blame users or board makers in about 3 years when the problems could arise.

Intel are better to show that they have done a mistake. If any board partner would have discover this not only intel would have been forced to pay but it would have end in few lawsuit from different board. And we all know that Intel lawyer are good to screw thing and end it with a overpriced off trial money reglement.
