    Hello and advice/comments please

    Hi all,

I have for quite a few years been running a Asus Maximus Extreme Mobo based rig which I built myself and housed in a Lian Li full tower case.

I am currently considering a new rig and was thinking of these components, may I impose on your time and ask if any of you more knowledgable folks can spot any potential pitfalls or reasonable improvements that I should consider?

    MoBo - Asus Maximus IV Extreme-Z Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
CPU - Intel Core i7-2600K 3.40GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor
PSU - OCZ ZX Series 1250W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply
COOLER - Corsair Hydro H100 Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
    RAM - G.Skill RipJawsZ 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual/Quad Channel Kit with Airflow Fan
    GFX - Asus GeForce GTX 670 DirectCU II 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express
SSD - Crucial RealSSD M4 256GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive
    HDD - Western Digital RE4 1TB SATA-II 64MB Cache
    CD/DVD - Sony Optiarc AD-7280S 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter

I am rather hoping that these components will work well together and provide a PC gaming rig that will last as long as my current Asus Maximus rig has. So, what dya think folks?

Can you wait a month? That Extreme-Z might get an upgrade

You don't need 1250W - it's complete overkill. ~Halve it! Even if you add another GTX 670 you'll have enough juice on a 700-800W PSU.
    You don't need an RD4 drive - you're not running a 24/7 server, so go for a normal 2TB
Not tempted by the 3770K vs 2600K?

Thanks Marshal, now that was fast, and I'll seriously look into your suggestions. This is exactly why I thought I should ask you guys.

I thought with the fairly high specs I would need a hefty PSU. An 800 W one will shave some off the cost. Perhaps the OCZ ZX Series 850W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply would be a better bet.

CPU - The difference in price between the 2600K and 3700K processor is so small as to be insignificant, I hadn't spotted that, cheers. The other question to be asked is - is there much difference between the LGA2011 and LGA1155 processors, again, there is a small difference in price with what seems to be an advantage in processor power LGA1155 2700K is 3.5Ghz where the LGA2011 3820K is 3.6Ghz for the same price, so what would be the advantage/disadvantage of one over the other (I realise I would need to reconsider my choice of MoBo)

    HDD
Hitachi Deskstar 7K3000 2TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 7200RPM seems like an excellent alternative to my original suggestion.

    All the best
    Bob

I just noticed your comment about waiting a month. Well, yes, I can wait a month although some of the components I'm thinking of buying are on a "this week only" deal, so I might be better off getting them first.
