    Detect Memory/Test CMOS

    Hey,

I have a question. I hope that somebody can help me out here. I first posted this on the Asus VIP Forum, but they've deleted my post . I takes 25 seconds until my "Load VGA bios" comes up on my Asus Rampage IV Extreme. I don't know if this is normal or not. It keeps switching between Detect memory/Test CMOS (and sometimes Check CPU). My memory modules are listed on the Qualified Vendor List. I have this since the very first boot of my PC last week with no settings done.

    Actions I've taken:
First boot, bios 1105 with already some settings done by Asus --> 25 seconds until "Load VGA bios"
Check power cables to motherboard --> OK
Bios version 1105 BIOS reset --> No change
Flash to bios version 1305 with default settings --> No change
EZ plug for additional power to Memory --> No change
Disable some BIOS settings that could cause this --> No Change

Now I've overclocked my CPU/Memory and it still takes 25 seconds until the Load VGA bios comes up.

    My system specs:
Asus Rampage IV Extreme BF3 edition
    Intel i7-3930K 3.2Ghz 6 cores
    Corsair 16GB Memory Quad Channel
Corsair H100 water cooling for processor
Asus Nvidia Geforce GTX460 graphics card
    Corsair H750W PSU
    2x Corsair Force GT SSD
    3x SATA HDD + 1x DVD Drive

I suggest you select 10uF and see how that goes.

Anybody? I can't seem to figure this out.
Maybe I'll just have to live with it?

Could you confirm that you have run memtest with your ram?

I use version 4.2 (USB stick) give it a try if you have not please.

    Yes, i unplugged all peripherals.
But underclocking my ram seemed to do the trick. It took 12 seconds until my vga was loaded, but then again it takes another 45 seconds until my post screen showed up. So I don't mind about that anymore. I have other worries now.

By default it sets my ram to 1333mhz while they are 1866 modules. It turbo clocks my cpu from 3.2 to 3.8. Of course I'm not satisfied with that.

When overclocking my cpu now to about 4.2 - 4.5Ghz and ram so that it's 1866Mhz my pc won't even boot or I have bluescreens of memory_management or Page_Fault_in_Non_Paged_Area . However if it works to reach memtest - it shows me no errors. I tried setting it with xmp and manual settings, but all seem to fail. Even when I follow this: Easy Overclock Guide it won't let me set my RAM to 1866Mhz.

When setting the cpu strap to 125 and bclk to 130. Then the cpu is also about 4.5Ghz, but memory is now 2080Mhz. I get a very stable system with no bluescreens and freezes. However memtest shows me a couple of errors in the very beginning at "moving inversions ones to zeros". I know memtest should be pretty representative for showing problems with your system, but where's the sense in that??

I then thought, maybe this auto volt of 1.69v is not enough. A manual setting of 1.70v and my PC won't boot. With manual DRAM timings, my PC won't boot either.

Can anybody help me, what am I doing wrong?
