Maximus V Gene CPU_OPT Fan header

I only used the stock cooler for my CPU so it only required the CPU_FAN header. Is it safe to use the CPU_OPT header with a chasis fan?

Okay, thanks.

Also theres a 3 pin header on the other side of the CPU_FAN header above the Digi+ EPU. however, this header isn't labeled. What is this for? Another fan maybe? I have looked in the book that came with the motherboard, but it isn''t shown there.

It is a header used during the manufacture process - kind of communications port.

CPU_FAN is best for cpu cooling fans, it allows the best range of operating conditions and is configurable.
CPU_OPT is only a 12v fan header, no configuration can be done (i.e. slow down the fan connected to it).

Don't use the 3rd header that is not labeled.... >>>>
