They may use some of the same .. but as to it being the 'same board' .. not possible..
With todays pcb's being upwards to 25 layers the smallest of changes would require a
complete 're-write'.
All I know is .. its next .. and I want it.c.
By the way, I want to clarify one thing I said earlier... About how AMD is a workstation CPU. I don't think I really explained myself. If you look at the clues, AMD is geared towards workstations. They are making 8 core CPU's now... No gamer needs or even wants that... They did that for the people who want lots of threads. The chipset supports 6 sata 6gb/s ports, and the upcoming one will support 8 sata 6gb/s ports. Again, no gamer needs that many drives. That is for editors who want lots of hard drives, and maybe even redundant hard drives.
That is why I don't really have a problem with them making this into an "overclocker" board, as many have called it.

Okay... That's not how I meant it... I was just pointing out that Asus used the same north bridge heatsink, so we should be able to use the same waterblocks...
Too tired to type. I will let Linus explain.

Who knows me, knows me....AMD 3000+, AMD x2 4600+ EE, AMD X4 955 BE C2,2x AMD X4 965 BE C3, AMD X4 970 BE C3, AMD x4 975 BE, AMD x4 980 BE, AMD X6 1090T BE, AMD x6 1100T BE, 2x AMD FX-8120, 2x AMD FX-8150, AMD A8-3850, AMD A8-3870K, Intel i7-980x, Intel i7 2600k, Intel i7-3770K, Intel i7-3930K. Coming to me on the way: Maximus V Formula (coming), AMD A10-5800K
After reading and carfull thought....I see nothing about this new board that will make me rush out and buy it to replace the 2 Crosshair V formula's that I have now. If it had PCIe 3.0.....maybe. I will wait to upgrade my board until that wonderful day arrives![]()

Yeah. Stepping back, and taking a look, there are a lot of changes that I need before I spend $250 more on a mobo when my current one works fine.
We obviously need PCI-e 3.0, but won't see it until the Crosshair VI.
As I said earlier, there is enough space for the ROG connect button on the back.
Still, the most important thing to me is a DUAL lan config. The GPU covers up a PCI-e 1x lane any way... Why not get rid of that blocked lane, and put in a second Intel lan instead? I don't think anyone would mind it.
Maybe these are some ideas for an Extreme edition of some sort??
I hate to say it Jeremy1998 but if you want Dual E-Net connectors then get one of the Non-ROG Boards...I had an A8N-SLI Premium which was based off the 939/940 Socket and it had Dual NIC's one from the nVidia Chipset and a Marvel Controller but really this was a Workstation/Server Class System and not an OC/Gamer System. ROG Products in the AMD line are apparently going away from Gaming to OC'ing only. if you look at the Feature Set's of what's been brought out in the ROG lines, there is less Long Term Stability since OC's burn out Parts as fast as the Ice Melts, and BIOS along with the features that Gamers want are ether being left out or changed over to what OC'ers want...Why the hell would a Gamer want Sub-Zero junk or a SLOW Mode Button. Why would you want all extreme settings in BIOS when you want the system to stay stable for Multiple Competitions not Burnout just before you Win the First Fire Fight in a Competition... I can see putting some of the OC Features into the system so that you can tune it to the best possible play area but to set it up to OC an 8 Core CPU with 7 cores shut down at 8ghz just to play BF3 isn't going to get you in GAME! it's going to get you another $2000USD for new parts!
Exactly. I think Asus needs to step back and think about what ROG stands for... What is that last letter at the end?
