    1) It's personal preference. If you're the "if it isn't broke don't fix it"-type then leave well enough alone. If you're the "need to have the latest and greatest"-type then sure, download the most recent revision for each & every driver/utility.

    2) Uninstalling the older version prior to installing the new version is usually the best route if an uninstaller option is available. If not, just install over the existing. Outright deleting it is generally not a good idea since you may miss something or accidentally delete the wrong file/driver and end up causing more harm than good.

Just got my system fired up making the back up disks before anything else......just in case. What about Windows Updates? I have always had my P C's notify me ...I never let anything update on it's own. Do you recommend installing all the Windows Updates?
I will do a clean install later down the road for now I want to make sure everything is good to go.

First things to do after buying G55/G75 based notebooks?
Open this thread and tell future buyers they should do the same :-)

Windows 7 (without SP1) installed just fine on my G75 or am I missing something?
    More memory is more.
    SSD means Super-Sonic Disc.
Thunderbolt is awesome and then some.

Need to install Windows on a G75V without EFI but keep the Recovery partition apps

    Hello.

I have a G75V with preinstalled WIndows 7 Premium, etc. I need to install software that requires that EFI be disabled (already done in BIOS settings), and that the EFI system partition be non existent.

I have read through the many postings on how to backup and restore the system, etc., but I have not seen anything on how to do a fresh rebuild without EFI and being able to access all of the ASUS drivers and programs stored i the Recovery partition. (I if missed a post with this information, I apologize)

Note that I have already created the 4 DVDs (which bascially recreate the system with the EFI partition and recovery partition) and have rebuilt the system several time using these DVDs. Also, I have no user data or other applications installed yet so that is not a problem.

Any help with how to do this would be appreciated.

    Thanks ... Mark

i have a genuine win 7 pro cd that i bought when i was a student, can't i just use this one to start fresh? i dont really care anymore if this ****ty win 7 home (preinstalled on the computer) goes to waste because everything thats preinstalled (including programs) on this computer seems to disturb on thing or another... i only have so much patience for ****ty things.
dont get me wrong, the g75vw is a lovely computer and im looking forward to take good care of it the next couple of years, would be sad if i had to get rid of it.

as long as the license of your win 7 pro is not of OEM, then it's ok to do that.

    Question More Detail Needed

    Hi,

This is my 1st post as I just received a new G75VW-NS71 RT (with GeForce GTX 670M) I bought from Newegg. I am following this post which was recommended by someone else who bought this model laptop on Newegg's site.

However, I'm no expert, and some of these step (from original post) are vague or don't give specifics. I don't mean to sound ungrateful, because I am, but for instance in step 4) What are normal temperatures? I have run Furmark benchmark and my GPU temps went steadily up and then pegged at 96 to 97-degrees Celcius the whole time. I can't find anyone else talking about their temperatures. I Googled around and see others that got this same exact temperatures (on other forums) and they were advised they were WAY TOO HOT and advised to RMA it (which they did, and at great cost sending it overseas). However, I find it quite the coincidence I got exactly the same temps as this other person, and I am hesitant to assume this is too high (or above normal as this post says).

Can some others that have a G75VW with GeForce GTX 670M please share what you Furmark bench test temperatures are?

    Thanks!

Normal Furmark Bench Test Temp = 75-Degrees Celcius

OK, well for anyone else wondering, the normal temperature range for the Furmark Bench Test (the 15-min Test at 1920 X 1080) appears to be in the mid-75-degrees Celcius range (Step 4 from the OP).

My first G75-VW I bought ran a steady 97-degrees (see post above). Nobody replied to my post above in this thread (no big surprise for a stickied thread since it doesn't re-sort on the listed postings and people don't notice them as much); so I created this post "Normal" Temperature for GTX 670M in G75VW?"

Many people replied and it seems nobody ever goes, say, over 80-degrees. Long story short, I RMA'd my laptop back to Newegg, and the replacement now runs at 74 to 75-degrees on the Furmark Bench Test. You can read more in that linked thread.

Hopefully this will help anyone else wondering "How hot is too hot?"

    b) If doing a Win 7 system image onto an external drive ( highly recommended ) for recovery purposes ( will be up to date with anything installed on your system at the time you create the system image ) it needs to be recovered with the same type of Win 7 64 bit SP1 included INSTALL disk. The win 7 utility will let you create a recovery disk on G55/G75 but it will not work to recover a system with ... the SP1 included INSTALL disk will work to boot up a system and do the recovery with.
So, even if I create a recovery disk using Windows 7's in-house app, I'll need a Win 7 INSTALL disk that also has SP1 (slipstreamed?) on it to do any recovery? Is there a way to download Win 7 install with SP1 already included? If not, will a slipstreamed Win 7 plus SP1 work in such a case? (If I can find a link to download the Win 7 install, will it need be the OEM version, or will my current key work otherwise?)

I don't really understand what this point [from the OP] was all about, or if it is even accurate. But for what it's worth, I can tell you this: I created Recovery Discs using the AI Utility (both on DVDs and images on an external HDD). I then installed a new SSD into my G75 and successfully "restored" the OS onto the new drive and everything worked and is working fine. I hope this helps
