Thread: Newest and best mobo?

  1. #1

    Question Newest and best mobo?

Which board that Asus ROG has released is the newest and most expandable right now. What about the fastest? I am looking to build a computer (my first build) and I am quite confused by all the Rampage, the Maximus, Crosshair (which I am not really interested in considering it uses AMD processors). I think the Maximus V Formula might be the answer, but I can not find it available for purchase anywhere. Since, I think it might be a pre release item, when will Asus release this board?

IMO you should take a step back. Before deciding on a Mobo decide on your CPU. Once you know which CPU you want look at a mobo that will match that socket.

I don't know about the M5F however the Gene is Available: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?...ducts_id=20000 thats in AUD.

It seems that the M5F will be available from July...

Actually, i would take even two steps back... the real first question is: What do you want this system for? (gaming, overclocking, office work, internet surfing)

For someone who is doing his first build and still wants a ROG motherboard, i would suggest the maximus V Gene. Its a superb motherboard wich has outstanding features for someone who is new to building/gaming/OC'ing but can also easely be used by more advanced users.
Going for a bigger board, especially the extreme, is pointless in your case.

    Question

What is the differences between M5F and M5E looking to over clock 4.8, 4.9. May be 5.0 if I can hit it sandy bridge i7 2700k CPU. Was going to get the M4E-z but see the M5F is $287.00 it doesn’t make sense to buy it now. I won’t use more than 2 graphics cards probably want upgrade for another 3-5 years after this if I do it will just be the CPU IB.

Classically, the Formula series are more for gaming, while the Extreme series are for OC'ing. Perhaps none of these mobos will represent a bottleneck for reaching 5GHz with the 2700k... however, choosing the right cooling, memories and PSU will be important for reaching your goals...
