    Overclocking Questions

    Hello,
    I have a 4.8Ghz system running 100% stable but I have some questions and concerns about some settings.

    BIOS v1402
    My Settings:
    AI Overclock = Man
    CPU Ratio = 24.0 (Dont want to go higher because I would have to set Volts higher and Im unsure if I should go any higher)
    AMD Turbo = Dis
    CPU Bus = 200 (Cant go over 200. Tried 205, lowered Memory to 1866(+205 @ 1912))
    Memory Frequency = 2133
    CPU/NB = 2600 (Tried running 2200 to get Voltages lower and it did not work)
    HT Link = 2600 (Tried running 2200 to get Voltages lower and it did not work)
    CPU Spread Spec = Dis (If i set this to Auto then i can lower CPU voltage to 1.493)
    PCIe Spread Spec = Dis
    Xtreame Tweaking = Dis (What is this ?)
    DRAM set to factory settings = 11-11-11-30-2T
    Extreme Over Volt = Dis
    CPU Volts = 1.5v Loads to 1.51v (This seems high for 4.8Ghz but I can not get a stable system lower. 1.493v will drop a worker during long Prime95 runs.)
    CPU/NB Volts = Auto @ 1.45v (The Auto setting has set the Volts to 1.45v. I have tried 1.2xxx and 1.3xxx Voltages and get workers stopped during long Prime95 runs)
    CPU VDDA = 2.587v Loads to 2.6v
    DRAM Volts = Auto @ 1.65v Loads to 1.67v
    Auto settings until,
    NB Volts = 1.2v
    NB HT = 1.2875v
    Rest Auto

    I am running a custom built water cooling system on CPU and NB so my temps 30mins into Prime95 are at 55c core 65c Socket.
    My core temps in Prime95 will raise to 55c and then drop to 50c and keep between those temps. during games like Battlefield 3 temp only gets to about 45c on cores. Max Payne 3, The Witcher 2 and all other games are even lower. I idle at 32c socket temp, Idel core temps jump around to much at 12c-25c. Also room temp plays a big part in my temps. I can crank up the AC and get even cooler temps.

    My questions are:
    1- Are my voltages high and/or safe ? I have read a lot on the web and just seem high for 4.8Ghz but my temps are fine and anything lower my system(Prime95) is not stable. I would Like to try for higher speeds with 5.0Ghz being my goal but unsure about bumping up CPU volts any more. I have been trying to get a 24x 210 @ 1.5v stable moving memory timming and speeds but unable.
    2- My CPU/NB volts at 1.45 set on Auto seem really high from everything i have read. 1.2 seems to be the number for other peaople but like a said above, Prime95 drops a worker during long runs 1hr+ with temps 55c core and 65c-70c Socket. Is 1.45 ok for the CPU/NB voltage ?
    3- Xtreme Tweaking in the BIOS. What does it do ? Should i enabled it. I forgot about this setting so I have not ran any test with it Enabled.
    4- Any ideas to get me to 5Ghz ?

    My Hardware:
    CPU = AMD FX8150
    MB = Croshair V Formila
    RAM = 2133 Patriot Viper Xtreme (16Gb) Cooled with air Zelman RAM cooler.
    Graphics = x2 HD 6970 Crossfire (Cooled with Artic Accelero Coolers and OC 940 Mhz GPU 1420Mhz Memory)
    SSD = x2 128Gb Samsung SSD RAID-0 (250Gb Total)
    SSD = 128Gb Patrol
    Hard Drives = x2 1Tb Hardrives RAID-0
    Power Supply = 900 Watt Antec High Current Gamer (I have checked my system needs with eXtreme Power Supply Calculator and it states i only need a 812 watt psu.
    Case = Thermaltake Level 10 GT Snow Eddition
    Custome water cooling for the CPU and NB
    Pump = Swiftech MCP655 Special Edition 12 VDC Pump With Speed Controller
    CPU block = EK-Supreme HF High Flow CPU Water Block - Full EN (Nickel)
    NB Block = EK-FB ASUS Crosshair V Waterblock - Acetal
    Radiators1 = Black IceŽ GTX Gen Two Xtreme 420
    Radiators2 = Aquacomputer Airplex XT 240
    Reservoir = XSPC Dual 5.25" Bay
    1 loop order = Reservoir - Pump - CPU - 240 Radiator - NB - 420 Radiator
    Going to do 2 loops when i upgrade Graphics

    Welcome to the forum
    Nice rig !
    1. I hate to say it but if it takes 1.5v to reach 4.8Ghz, your chip may not like going to 5.0Ghz. you can go up to 1.52v or 1.53v but I wouldn't recommend anything higher.
    2. 1.45v is too high for the cpu/nb, you should be able to run cpu/nb @ 2600Mhz with 1.28v to 1.3v. I'm running 2600Mhz @ 1.28v.
    3. leave the Extreme Tweaking disabled , that's mostly for LN2 OCing.
    4. see #1 as long as you can keep your core temps under 60c.

    Thank you Oldbrave.
    I set my CPU/NB to 1.29 loads up to 1.31 and have ran Prime95 fine for about 30mins now and seems temps are even a bit lower
    Thank you for your info

    Ok, I ran Prime95 last night for 2hrs with no workers dropped with the CPU/NB voltage down to 1.29v. I do not know what happen when I tried this in the past that made me get a Prime95 error. Also I notice after an hr of running prime95 my core Temp was going between 48c and 50c now. I think i will try the 1.52v on CPU and see if that will get me 5ghz or 4.9Ghz and leave it.
    With the price of the FX8150 down to $199 and the release of the FX8350 coming soon, Im less woried about burning this CPU up. I may just see how far I can push it on the Volts if temps stay good.
    Thanks again!!

    HiTemp, it's very rude to hijack other's thread with a totally different subject... - open your own thread...

    For some reason I could not find an OC guide for your mobo on this Forum (and never had that mobo and CPU, so no experience with them), but here is a thread you may want to read through: http://www.overclock.net/t/682489/of...a-extreme-club
