    Maximus V Gene mSATA

    Hi, New to the forum.

Can we install an operating system on the mSATA SSD on the PCI-e ? or is it for HDD caching only?

    Thanks

Yes you can install the OS on it! It can be either a caching drive or a standard drive.

Thanks for the answer Marshall, that's great, I am planning to use 120 gg msata SSD for the operating system and big HDD for datas on SATA ports. I wonder what will be the speed like on the mSATA ports? any link for some one who tested it?

    Thanks

You're trying to use an external SSD for the OS through a PCIe slot?

The speed will be determined by multiple factors... the speed of the SSD itself, the connection speed, etc...

If you want to get max speed form an OS on the SSD, you do need to make some optimizing: http://www.overclock.net/t/1156654/s...-for-ssds-hdds

I am trying to find what would be the fastest, Sata3 SSD on Intel Sata3 Port or mini SSD on mSATA port, I guess the first option is the fastetst but how much? If it is at least on par with SATA2 speed, it wouldbe nice.

No problem, leghmoh, go tit from the specs on the manufacturer's site...

That OCZ one you linked should work fine... - may i ask you, why you're not going for a SATA III (6GB/s) SSD on one of the regular SATA ports of the mobo?
