I don't think the newly announced "Rampage IV Black Edition" is a RIVE. It's a RIV, but not necessarily a RIVE, I think? If you look closely at the picture, several features of the RIVE are missing -- the chipset/nb/sb are all passive cooling (no fan+heatpipe), there are no voltage ProbeIT points, no LN sensors, etc.

Of course it's possible the image is just misleading OR that what they have built in to the new edition simply makes the old features unnecessary, but it's worth noting it is being announced specifically as the "RAMPAGE IV BLACK EDITION" and NOT the "Rampage IV Extreme Black Edition"

Top right corner mate, are a bunch of points, might be the probe/solder points. Don't forget, they're actually still working on it, so what we've seen so far won't be the finished retail product

I don't mean it as a criticism, just as an observation. I'm well aware that many features of the RIVE are overkill for the average, or even average ADVANCED user. I just think it's worth noting for those considering a new build that we are not yet sure this RIV "Black" is actually a RIVE, for their planning.

The board is probably over kill for me too, but i'm getting one anyway and slapping it onto my test bench, when I can finally cough up the dough to get it built, which reminds me!!! I have to send an email to a friend in regards to some stuff

Oh, absolutely. RIVE is totally overkill for me, too (what do I need sub-zero sensors for? lol), but there's still something sexy about having all that hardware available if/when I decide I do need it.

Once you go RIVE, you never go back.

Looks like there is no 6 pin connector for PCI lanes? Safe to assume PCI speeds are the same as RIVE?
