Mine is currently at this temp (checked with hwmonitor) and just wondering if others are the same or if mine is abnormally high. Since a friend of mine said it shouldnt go over 30 in idle..

Any clue what the ambient temperature is in the room you're getting the idle temp from?
Mine idles around 40 C with an ambient temp of 27-28 C

yeah, youre room ambient temp is a bit high, i think you should be ok.
your friend is probably operating in air conditioning around ~70degreesF, you are 15 degreesF higher, that HAS to affect it. if you convert to degreesC and subtract his from yours, that is close to what he's getting.
here is what you should do if youre still worried, go into an air conditioned room around 70F, let it run or more preferably do a stress test benchmark w/ furmark, post your results back here. you are on the right track though, this is something you should do when you first get any gaming pc.
