    Heat!

OK, still wrestling with lots of other weirdness but I am still running a dead stock 4170 and it idles at 55 degrees. I am running a bunch of older processor and they idle in not as well cooled cases between 34 and 42 degrees. I have had three different processors in this board and they all run HOT! Thermal Radar sucks? Bad board design? I got a top rated after market cooler with Silver 5 paste.

What brand of Paste are you using? I have a 4170 too and it's idling at 30 Degrees, also....what is your cooler?

The ST does seem to run a little hotter than the CHV for some reason. Out of interest what is the ambient temps?

    Hi folks,
I am running Artic Silver 5 paste, an Artic Cooling 64 Pro, and 72 degree ambient temp.

The case has five fans. There is an 80mm front inlet, a 120mm top exhaust, an 80mm rear exhaust, and two 80mm side panel inlets.

The AC64 is blowing towards the rear and roughly lines up with the rear case exhaust fan. The two side fans blow on the memory and video card in slot 1 respectively.

The whole system runs massively hotter than any other PC I have. As I turn to look at Asus Thermal Radar, the CPU is idling at 48, the MB is 41, Vcore 1 and 2 are 49 and 47 respectively, the NB is at 55, DRAM at 47, PCE 1 and 2 are at 46 and 38.

The case fans are set on Turbo mode as is the HSF.

Try swapping one of your 80mm inlets to an exhaust, looks like you're forcing more air in to your rig than removing it

    Hmmm,
OK. I can do that. Three 80mm inlets. It wouldn't seem correct to reverse the front case fan. The two side fans are less than 2 inches apart. Won't switching one of them just make a closed air cycle? Anyway, I will try swapping both of them and see what happens.
