Knight , from what you're saying , you appear to have remnants of both AV's on - can make you problems for all sorts of stuff .
I think it's imprtant that you do a complete uninstall of both McAfee and Trend Micro .
    For McAfee http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS101331
    For Trend Micro http://esupport.trendmicro.com/Pages...-Pro-2010.aspx
After , you can do a new install of the one you want . McAfee should then work on your Win 7 .

    HI guys,

Well this reply is more on my first experience on re-pasting of GPU. You can read various problem I faced with my laptop in this thread so I won’t mention it again over here.
I manage to sort out one issue of overheating of GPU, ideal temp was around 70 degree and while playing game like starcraft 2, dota 2 it use to go above 100 degree.

    Laptop Model G73 SW.

    So tools required:
    Small cross head screw driver
Lint free cloths or camera lens cleaning cloths /tissues if you have
Acetone to clean the old thermal paste on the GPU
    (http://www.arcticsilver.com/arcticlean.htm)
I use arctic silver 5 paste, but you can have other options too. ( check out the article on thermal paste do read it , it is very informative http://www.techpowerup.com/printarticle.php?id=134 )
Hard cardboard piece to remove the thick thermal paste from all the chips below heat sink.
Videos you must watch before jumping to open ur laptop

    This is to open laptop:

This is to know how to do GPU repasting:

I narrowed down to above 3 videos as with these you get a very good idea of what ur suppose to do. You can Google more any ways.

From my experience when I open my GPU this is what I saw

    01082012018.jpgpic 2.JPG

If you look closely in the picture my GPU is covered by a yellow plastic (its normal, I saw it in few videos) but old thermal paste was inside this plastic and I was unable to clean it without removing it ( I don’t know it is normal to have this scenario, may be it is just a bad quality of workmanship)

I would like to mention this point that my laptop is almost 10 months old and I’m facing different issue of over heating since day one; since I could not get any help from asus service central I did not bother to contact them again (it’s altogether different issue).

Never mind back to the subject, I took a risk to remove to plastic to clean the old paste from inside, the plastic was already coming out and I had no choice but to clean it. At the end it was done with no issues so far.

Next I cleaned all the small small ics and chips. It took me around 3 hours just to clean the mess; I went on slow just to be sure not to damage anything.

I clean each leg on small ICs that u can see in picture because on different forums it was mention that it is not good if u have thermal paste remains shorting the two leg of chip/ICs.

    I also clean the fans.

For repasting part it was not so difficult, from the video link u can have good idea of how to do it.

After fixing back the laptop I monitor the ideal temp for GPU and it was around 40 degree. For testing I started the game DOTA 2 and after half an hour the temp was 62 degree.

Then I did the furmark benchmark test for 1 min, which was pass and max temp was 70 with 2468 score. ( sorry I don’t have the snap shot with me now to share)

Since my display drive 285.62 is keeps giving problem from time to time I did not do more testing.

My next step today will be to check on the graphic card driver, it’s a whole new topic and issue, maybe if I manage to solve it I will post it later.
That’s it for now .. thanks for reading.

    Please do post ur suggestions/improvements/advice.

    Cheers

+1 rep, @knight...should be +2, but forum rules are rules . You did an excellent job with that guide, any of the long-timers around here would be proud. Better walkthrough than I have ever done, congratulations!

thanks zygomorphic as i saw many people having different issues and they go thru different thread i thought putting up my exp might help someone someday

i will finish the stuff if i'm able to get thru my drive issues... people give me different advice, i tried all and unfortunately nothing seems to work...
and its freaking me out why on earth i cannot install drive in safe mode, it keeps saying not compatible hardware found

further just to add-up, my laptop is giving better performance in win8 then win 7... (note: i have both installed in different participation to check the system stability)

...in a different participation...can only participate in OS experience at a time...one partition per participation...you made me smile.

I have not had to repaste my GPU, so nothing doing there, but I read through your explanation, and it is indeed one of the best that I have read. Great work!

Which driver are you trying to install? Try the most recent ones from nVidia site.

well the idea behind using win7 and win8 is just to check how the laptop behalf, and it is strange that my laptop do not crash on win8 but it crash is win 7, now how to explain this.. for me its stupid.. still its a reality

on win8 i use drive 301. something and everything works well..
on win 7 I use 285.62 .. display driver crash from time to time but it recovers my itself, further if i install any other ver for eg 296, 302 or 304 beta, laptop freeze and i have force shut down to recover....

these days i stop my gaming and i just experiment with my laptop

Switch to Win 8 then! Microsoft has finally! gotten their compatibility act together. They have learned that breaking backwards compatibility is definitely not a smart business move (Vista, anyone?). Win 8 has lower resource consumption, so that might help your gaming...if you can get used to the Metro UI.
