    Unhappy HD 7850 DC2 2GD5 - Randomly increased idle temperatures (34 to 42 °C)

I bought this ASUS card about two weeks ago after my previous card (NVIDIA GTX 480) died on me. Temperatures are monitored via GPU Tweak, I haven't overclocked anything, and all settings are set to factory standards.

When the PC boots, the temperature can be anything between 34 to 40 °C, and over the course of the day, it keeps on randomly rising and dropping. The few applications I run all day are Firefox (lots of different Youtube tabs), VLCplayer, and MS Word. When I play BF3 or World of Warcraft (usually for two hours or so), the maximum temperature never climbs higher than 55°C (with all details set to highest). Is this normal?

    Here are my specs:
    i7 930 @ 2.80
    IPMTB-GS X58
    BeQuiet 530 PSU
    1TB Hitachi HDD
HAF 922 case (standard top, back. front fan setup)

What yout defauit fan speed of your card. When an app required gpu processing it normal to see a surge in temp for your gfx card. Used 3 party such as Asus GPU tweak to tune the fan speed. @55 I still feel it alright with air cool.

The default speed is 20. Today, I changed the setting to user defined via GPU Tweak (40 as base, then 50, then 70, then 100).

At a fan speed of 40, the temperature can still rise to 45+ °C even when I'm only running VLCplayer or a few Firefox Youtube tabs. Doesn't raising the default fan speed to 55 as base value use up a lot more power?

Another weird thing is that, if I reset everything to default via GPU Tweak (fan speed of 20), the temperature sometimes goes back down to 34 to 39 within a minute or so.

As for me it still safe at that temp. The app your are currently running contribute the temp to rise. You dont have to worry about. I am running 7970 @default clock 1GHz also run the temp at 43 wuthout load and I am setting the fan speed at 30%.
