Nope - the 990X is a different stepping and came along towards the latter part of the Gulftown era.
Actually the 980X and the 990X are distinctly different from the 920/930/950 etc. range of processors and not just because they are hex cores while the others are all quad cores. They have different behaviours for example with the Unicore ratio. Double the ram speed for the quad core and 1.5x for the hex core.
Sure, I did observe the differences! And also these extreme ones supports less voltages... - at least according the Intel specs...
I just thought that they're still first generation... but, hey, does it really matter? OC'ing the X58 platform is still the same... just different things to keep in mind...
Thanks clearing this up in my head!
"Unicore ratio" - i like this!
Good deal, thx . was just wondering.
thx , I printed those setting from that link and used my ram setting and all seems to be ok, I have not ran that oc for more than a few mins, just enought to boot into windows and shut it down for the night. going to use prime95 on sat and re enter the 4.2 oc and see how it goes. thx for the help.
