    G73Sw tested with Kingston's new Plug N Play Hyper X

    Today Kingston came over with their latest Hyper X PnP (Plug n Play) memory. Sodimm 1600mhz and 1866mhz memory kits. http://www.kingston.com/hyperx/pnp/default.asp

    So whats really interesting about these memory kits is it will automatically overclock your memory for you. Whether you have the ability to manually increase the memory frequency or not within the bios, these will set it to the rated speed automatically. In most cases, ASUS notebooks do NOT allow you to increase the memory frequency, so if you plan to do a memory upgrade, these could be a sweet deal for you.

    Below is a picture of the 1600mhz kit, but we actually put in a full 16GB of kingston's new 1866 pnp modules. So from the stock 1333 to an overclocked 1866 frequency, lets see what kind of performance gains we'll get. Additionally they have added a new heatspreader which looks very clean.

    Our tech dissembling the G73 with the quickness for the 16GB upgrade from Kingston.

    • As you can see from CPU-Z, we have a Dram frequency of 1862.6 (931.3 x 2)
    • Confirmed we are running 16GB

    Running performance index, we went from the stock 7.6 to a 7.9. (sorry for the poor shot, but i pointed out the memory test in the red arrow.

    Running 3Dmark11, we barely saw an increase.
    3034 -> 3060

    Running PCMark vantage, we saw quite a bit of an increase.

    Maximum memory speeds for i7/i5 processor are the following:

    - 1st Gen i7/i5 - 1333 Mhz

    - 2nd Gen i7/i5 - 1666 Mhz

    Even if you put these monster plug and play memory on your G73jh laptop, the maximum speed that you'll get is 1333 Mhz only.
