Hi guys

Having built my pc I can't really find out on the internet which connections offer a faster or better performance if any? What is really the difference between both of them?

I have a 2tb hard drive that I want to connect to sata and my blueray drive and thats it, so I just need to know which sata 6.0gb connectors on the maximus formula motherboard would be better overall, the Intel or Asmedia ones?

any info would be great thanks

Intel is faster than Asmedia. I don't know the numbers but by about 20% I believe. If you get a SSD connect it to Intel and move the blue-ray to Asmedia

The Intel has direct access to Chipset so is by far the faster and in fact more stable option too as far as transfer rates go. Connect as many drives as possible to the Intel controller and SSD's to Intel Red ports. If after filling Intel ports then move onto ASmedia with things like optical drives.

If you dont need the Asmedia ports at all disable them in Bios for faster boot up.

Connect to the intel ports, and disable the other controller as 8 Pack has suggested.

as above, use 3rd party controllers only when you run out of native Intel ports. Also Asmedia ports are for storage devices only, not for bootable OS devices.

just some numbers for
the asmedia s3 ports. they top out around 400mb/s after getting a second ssd plugged it in. asmedia maxed at 400mb/s updaed firmware on ssd same thing. plugged it into the intel s3 ports and reached the avertised speeds of 560mb/s
good news is that a mechanical drive runs the same speeds and maxes at 160mb/s on both the intel and the asmedia. although it would be nice to the controller match intels. lets hope for an update

I doubt the 3rd party controller would ever match intel native ones ... it was the same story with Marvel ports on other boards, they are junk.
