Standby and the annoying flashing Power LED!!!

When I put my computer into standby my computer’s power LED flashes, which really annoying, especially a night… It didn’t do this when I was using my old motherboard.

Does anyone know of a BIOS setting or motherboard switch/jumper that would disable this??

Thanks!

Open your case and remove the HDD led connector from the header.

Thanks for the reply... But I dont think I want to remove my HD LED header (then I would not have a way to monitor HD activity), besides the LED that is flashing is the POWER LED once system is in standby mode.

HHMM... My Power LED didn't use to do this when I use to put it Standby mode, at least with my old mother board, only started to do this after installing my new Maximus V Formula board, that's why I thought it might be a BIOS setting or maybe even a jumper/switch that would "turn off" the blinking when in standby mode.

So, is it safe to assume that all Maximus V Formula board owners's Power LED blinks when the system is in Standby mode, is that correct?

I don't think this is something you can adjust. Even with my G73 laptop the blue LED under the screen blinks while in standby. I think it is designed that way so you know your system is currently in standby. Why don't you just turn the PC off at night?

I usually do turn it off at night, but sometimes i have certain windows/apps up and want to keep them up for the following day.... or during the day Im on and off the computer and find it very easy to just standby.

I think the annoying factor of standby on your system is a function of the case. I have the HAF-X and there is only a very tiny red LED for the power. In standby it blinks, but it's so small, it would never be annoying. You must have a case with a gigantic power led (and maybe other LEDs that connect with it, like on my G73 laptop) that causes a whole light show when in standby.

No my LED lights do not blink when I am in standby? But what do you mean by standby? I sleep my system and no lights are on when I sleep.

Sleep/Standby same thing. You don't have a blinking power led during sleep? That's odd. Are you using Windows 7? Both of my Windows 7 computers; the Asus G73 laptop and the MVE both blink the power LED when in sleep mode.

Put a resistor inline on the ground side of the LED cable. If you want to adjust the brightness use a small 10K potentiometer instead with the ground lead connected to one of the end legs and the center leg. Job done.

Wow Praz.. That seems a bit too technical...
