Maximus V Formula ~ First build

Asasen5
Level 7
So I'm building my first gaming rig and was looking at all the options and what i have come up with is;

CPU: i5 3570K
PSU: XFX 750W XXX Edition Semi-Modular PSU 80+ Silver
Motherboard: Maximus V Formula
Memory:Corsair 8GB (2x4) DDR3
SSD: Kingston 120GB HyperX 3K
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 2TB
Graphics Card: ASUS GeForce GTX 660 Ti DirectCU II 2GB OC
Case: NZXT Switch 810 - Matte Black

I was also looking at CPU coolers and I found the Thermaltake Frio OCK CPU Cooler, I was wondering if that cooler will fit in with the Fusion Thermo or is there not enough clearance?

Any help/advice or suggestions on this build (as it is my first) would be greatly appreciated 🙂

Welcome to the ROG boards, Asasen5. As far as compatibility and power requirement go, your build is perfect. I could suggest other brands for your build but I don't know how tight your budget is. As for the FRIO OCK, I wish I had an answer for you but I don't. Sorry.

Thanks 🙂
I'm open for suggestions of different options. This build, with everything in the first post costs about $1,550 (somewhere around there), so my budget would be around that, no higher then $1,600 I guess.

My main problem really is if the FRIO OCK will fit or not..

I would recommend you take a look at either the 670 or the 660, the performance difference between the 660ti and 660 is very little and if you're going to SLI I recommend the 670. http://www.anandtech.com/show/6276/nvidia-geforce-gtx-660-review-gk106-rounds-out-the-kepler-family/...

It looks to be about the same size as the Coolermaster V6 in which case I would say it should fit although I cannot confirm for sure. However it may also be an issue with your ram if you get corsair dominator as it has a very large heatsink a better option to go for something like a Corsair H100i or H80i if it will fit within your budget. They are both water cooling kits but require no maintenance or setup

That's more like it. I work better when I see numbers. This is what I'd get if I had a $1600 budget:

Intel Core i5 3570K 3.4GHz LGA 1155 Processor
ASUS Maximus V Formula
Corsair Vengeance Series 8GB DDR3-1600 PC3-12800
Samsung 840-Series MZ-7TD120BW 120GB SATA 6.0Gb/s
Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7,200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5"
ASUS GTX670-DC2-4GD5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670
Corsair CMPSU-750AX Professional Series Gold AX750
NZXT Switch 810 Full Tower ATX Computer Case
TOTAL: $1537.92

Prices courtesy of MicroCenter of course. The Switch 810 is the white since they didn't have the black one. I think the gunmetal version is like $20 more expensive. Didn't add a heatsink because I wasn't sure it'll fit and I didn't know how you feel about liquid cooling.

I agree with Chino.

Go BIG on the graphics card if your Rig is primarily for gaming. You'll need less power than you might think because devices are more efficient, but a great quality PSU is a must.

How much is the 670? And is water cooling a bit obsolete?

Here's the dimensions of the FRIO OCK

Oh okay, I'm only looking for something cheap and effective. I can get the FRIO OCK for $75, so I don't really want to spend more then that on cooling
