    Maximus IV Gene-Z LAN problem

Long story short. Got my mobo today, hooked everything up, spent 4 hours troubleshooting and the intel gigabit LAN still won't connect to my router or modem.

I've tried everything from installing different OS to different drivers to using diffent cables and connecting them to different ports on the router. Nothing works. The orange and yellow lights on the ethernet port keeps blinking every second at the same time and it keeps telling me in windows that the cable is unplugged. Again I know for sure it's not the cable or the router that is broken because I have tested it on my other pc and it works fine.

Only conclusion I can come up with is that the LAN port is defective unless I'm missing something. If someone with the board can give me some ideas on what could be wrong that would be great, or someone from Asus.

I'm running windows home prem 64 bit and I have tried pro 64 and it still doesn't work.

    Hi,

Can you please check Device Manager and tell me if the device is listed as working properly or not?

Also what BIOS version are you running and which Intel NIC drivers are you using?

Hey Raja, device manager shows the device as working properly. I'm using the stock bios which is version 0208 X64. I have tried the drivers from the CD, Asus website, and Intel's website and none of them help.

Have you tried another LAN cable?

Ya I have tried 5 different cables that work with my other PC. At this point, I have tried everything I can think of. I even brought it over to a friends house to test it on his connection just to make sure it's not my internet and it still won't work. I'm trying to figure out how to run Ubuntu right now to see if it's defective or not.

I would check the port with a flashlight to see if any of the contacts are messed up. It could just be a physical problem with the port.

    Try this BIOS please:

If that does not work, might be worth trying an RMA.

Hey Raja I just tried that bios and it's still the same. Funny thing tho, as I was installing Ubuntu, the router light port turned on and i was connected to the router, however I wasn't able to load any sites even tho it shows I was connected to the internet. There was no activity light on the intel LAN port tho.

Ok so now I got the router port to light up again but it can't log into the router or the internet. Only the yellow LED lights up every 10 seconds or so and the router light solid with no blinking activity.

Try for an RMA. Are you US based? If so drop me a PM please.
