Is the ASUS Keyboard Device Filter Needed?

I noticed on my Drivers Disc which came with my G75VW it doeasn't even have the Keyboard Device Filter it only install the ATK Package.

Also, when I try to install the Keyboard Device Filter from the Windows 7 Drivers download section, it gives an error.

I am only able to install the Keyboard Device Filter 1.0.0.5 which I got from the Windows 8 section.

Do I need to install the ASUS Keyboard device filter?

so why is the 1.0.0.3 version from the ASUS / Windows 7 section not installing?

I noticed my keyboard lights buttons work fine even without the keyboard device filter, what gives then

Take a look at the link below, scroll down until you see KB Filter. I tried to install the 1.0.03 verison and got and error and couln't install. I really don't have any need for it.

http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/380681-asus-utility-bloatware-guide.html

KB Filter - Technically a driver, Asus lists this as a utility. KB filter is a driver that adds additional features to standard keyboard functions such as enabling multiple key combinations.

This confirms it then the 1.0.0.3 Keyboard Device Filter has a problem. I hope some one who works at ASUS informs them of this

You may also want to confirm that you have G75VW and are running Win7, but I was able to install the keyboard filter V1.0.0.3 on my G75VW Win7 test unit without too much problem as below although I still haven't figured out exactly what use it is.

After you download and unzip the driver, run the PNPINST64.exe file and say 'Yes' to User Account Control and 'Yes' again when Windows Driver Setup asks if you want to install it.

Yeah man I have a G75VW and the driver from the CD that came with my laptop and the one I download from ASUS give me the same error.

only 1.0.0.5 installs fine but that is from the G75VW/Win 8 download section so this shouldn't be the case ASUS has to fix this

After I right click on PNPINST64.exe and choose run as administrator (mind you I am the administrator) I get the following unknown error, this happened on many diff. formats and clean installs of Windows 7

If you aren't seeing any other problems, not sure if you want to worry about it too much or just go with the 1.0.0.5 version, but I'd still like to figure out why it isn't working myself.
Anyway, the original ASUS English Win7 64-bit factory image for my G75VW unit didn't have the ASUS keyboard filter driver installed and was using one from Microsoft from what I remember (I can recover and check this if you want to compare), but I just installed 1.0.0.3 on this image and it went through okay.

1. Thanks for the screenshot and I just opened the PNPINST64.exe file instead of running as administrator and said 'yes' to the UAC prompt which appeared right away if it matters.

2. Assume you are running Win7 64-bit and not Win8, but also wanted to make sure you didn't already have the keyboard filter driver version 1.0.0.5 installed already although you mentioned you tried clean installs, so doesn't sound like it.

3. If you still have the original ASUS Win7 image, recover and try it again, but if you installed the ATK driver, Intel Inf, and vga driver after a clean Win7 64-bit install, I would think it should be okay.

4. Don't expect the driver download is corrupt, but the size of the zip file is 171, 264 bytes (172, 032 size on disk) on my system if you want me to send it to you. There were also a couple files in the higher level directory after unzipping if it matters, so you may want to keep them around just in case.

Well, running out of ideas, so let me know if you can think of anything else you want me to try or tell you about.

well worst case scenario ill just install the one from Windows 8 1.0.0.5 but lets do a final try

please upload ur 1.0.0.3 in a zip file via any sharing website, i recommend this one, it has no ads and no need to sign up:
