G73jh Lag Spikes ( On Desktop? and all other applications?)

Retired

So I have a Asus G73jh -X1.
ATI Radeon 5870.

While listening to music, playing a game or even working in photoshop or Microsoft Visual Studio i will get lag spikes. My mouse will freeze up and then start to jerk around. Sound will also freeze up and jitter as well as any video if 1 is playing. I've run a virus scan and don a disk cleanup / defrag. I've also followed this solution http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=1861804&mpage=1&print=true

If it helps at all this seems to commonly happen when loading web pages or receiving online notifications.
I can't find the source of the problem any help would be greatly appreciated.

1) Disable hw accel in your browsers.
2) Lag spikes can be from driver latency. Try updating your Wifi and LAN drivers to start.

Thanks for the prompt reply however i downloaded the WiFi driver that you posted here http://www.asusrog.com/forums/showthread.php?1150-G73-74-53-Series-Driver-and-Application-Reference and when i try to install it i get the error " The installer cannot run on this platform. Please select the package for your operating system". I also wasn't able to discover in Google Chrome where it's possible to disable hardware acceleration.

As for the Wifi drivers, which model is listed in Device Manager on your laptop?

The WiFi adapter i'm using is Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter.
I tried last night installing the new driver on the support.asus.com and it hasn't changed anything. While i'm here ill also note that my webcam doesn't work. It says "Unrecognized USB device" and i've tried installing the drivers off of asus and every time it says "Cant find hardware" and ends there. So yah that's how things are going thanks for the continued support.

Uninstall the old drivers first, reboot, then install the new drivers.

Try this set of drivers... the ones I had before may not be 100% Win 7 approved

If it helps i've watched the Task manager and when this occurs noting really changes in the processes tab. CPU usage doesn't sky rocket and this happens most often while streaming music.

The other area of Windows that (sometimes) has useful information is the event log. If there is something driver related going on it will often show up as an error in the log.
