Thumbs up I have the Maximus Gene Z ... Drives attached to this board is incredibly slow in

Why is that so... even when I click it once and it takes a while for the drive to respond. They at SATA 6 drive and Sata 3 drives attached according to their respective ports. Why is there a delay. I have turn off Power Saving features of it in bios... and even in Windows 7 Control panel Power settings.. do not turn drives down or spin down. All drivers are from ASUS site. What is wrong then??

Just to make sure did you adjust this setting :

EDIT : oups I crop too much the pics, anyway the setting should be never under ( turn off drive after "

Also you don't specify witch drive model is slow , if it's a WD green it's normal the head park after a certain ( adjustable ) delay

I am not sure if it is WD green drive. I will check... maybe it is.. since now all companies are making those green drives no matter what company it is... or what they are called.... same thing.

no it's not the same thing, I have no idea if the Seagate and Samsung green drives park , but WD Green do so ...... On my build I put only WD Black as mecanical drive, they don't park and they are accessible right away when I click on them

have you try to turn on Hot Plug for the drive ? I turn it on (thanks to spahti), things runs well.
only that, i can't plug in my main disk on any 6Gb/s SATA slots, as BIOS won't be able to recognize it. I'm using the 3Gb/s now.
I'm have Maximus IV extreme-z board though.

What issue were you getting before and what did enabling Hotplug do for the issue?

AHCI has a low power mode for the bus, the first thing to check is if you have the Intel RAID/AHCI drivers installed from the latest BIOS zip. then if the drive is still not working properly with AHCI then hot plug will turn off the bus low power mode during idle. Just a guess from what I read on some SSD manufacturers sites (I think OCZ).

Best to see if drivers work first as HotPlug might turn off write caching as well (not sure). HotSwap has been reported to speed up some older SSD's though.

Cool as sometimes drives do not appear in my boot menu although in the SATA Menu and appear at F8.
