Maximus IV Gene-z non Gen3 - HELP

aboutis
Level 7
Hello,

So, I have a Maximus IV Gene-z non Gen3 for 2years in the box, never used. And i'll build a new pc with it now. Since there is no NEW 2nd Gen cpu to buy, I want to get a Ivy Bridge 3rd gen. I read once that I can use 3rd gen cpu if I update the BIOS.

And here is my question: Can I buy a 3rd gen cpu, build my pc with it and then update the BIOS or I would have to build with a 2nd gen cpu to update the BIOS and then put a 3rd gen on it??

If you know, please help me. Thank you.

You will need to have bios 3203 or newer for the 3770K to work for you.

Do you know what bios your board has? If it is shipping bios then it will be the last 4 digits on the white sticker near to the SATA and 24 Pin power connector.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

The number is "0208"
