Best Drivers to use

Rumbles
Level 7
Hi,

I have tried the ASUS drivers from the main website, and wanted to use them with Gaming Evolved, but GE can't detect my hardware when I am using the ASUS Catalyst drivers, I asked on their forums and they said those drivers are very old (these are the latest ones on the ASUS website) and I should try the 14.4 or 14.7 beta drivers instead.

When I have tried these drivers my system becomes massively unstable, I get black screens when logging in to Windows 7 SP1, and removing the driver in safe mode is the only way to get it working again.

Is there anything similar to GE for ASUS cards which will optimise my game settings? Or is there a beta release channel for the Catalyst drivers which should work with my ASUS R9 GPU?

Thanks,

Or has anyone got any idea why the default AMD Catalyst drivers cause my system to become so unstable and crash, or why the ROG recommended drivers are so old that they won't work with Raptr?

Is there a source for beta drivers for ASUS hardware that I could try? I have been posting on the Raptr forums about this, and I have had some feedback, but so far all I have figured out I kind of knew before I started asking on there:

Someone on the Raptr forums has suggested there is a conflict between the ASUS Motherboard drivers for the ASUS Crosshair V Formula Z Board and the latest AMD Catalyst drivers, has anyone any experience with this? They seem to make my system unstable.

Thanks hax0rmort, were you just using the standard motherboard drivers suggested by AI Suite II? When I use these with the normal Catalyst drivers from ASUS it all works fine, if I use the later Catalyst drivers my system hangs.

At the moment I have serious trouble playing BF4, when I am running the game on the ASUS drivers, the game will crash and bring up the error:

DirectX function "GetDeviceRemovedReason" failed with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG ("The device is hung which is typically caused by issues in the graphics driver or alternatively the application"). GPU: "ASUS R9 290 Series", Driver: 8.17.0010.1247 12/7/2013 06:01:52

When using the 14.4 drivers, the game will run, but when I leave the game my PC just sits on a black screen, and I have to reboot the machine, once it has rebooted I can't even load in to Windows, it hangs on a black screen after the Windows flag has disappeared.

If I use the 14.7 drivers, after I reboot my system I can log in but within a few seconds my PC locks up and I'm unable to do anything.

In all cases, rebooting in to safe mode and deleting the GPU drivers via device manager stops the system being unstable. But then I can't use the system without GPU drivers.

Is my hardware faulty? Do I need to RMA my card? Because at the moment that seems to be the next step.

So I believe the issue with the DirectX error that I have been having is down to EA, not down to AMD/ASUS, looking at this post there are a few things I can try:

http://answers.ea.com/t5/Battlefield-4/DirectX-function-GetDeviceRemovedReason-failed-with-dxgi-erro...

However, I am still annoyed that I can only use the old ASUS drivers, not the newer drivers which support Mantle API, which was one of the features I was looking forward to with this GPU. Any advice on getting these drivers installed and stable would be appreciated.

I've had an email back from ASUS this morning suggesting I RMA the card, I have now been in touch with the suppliers, and I will see what they say about getting the RMA rolling. Hopefully a new card will be able to run these new drivers.

Regardless of the fact that ASUS have asked me to RMA the card, the supplier has tested my card and said there is no fault with it. Not impressed, I've been without a GPU for 2 weeks and now I am back to square one.

Found out they only tested it with the 13.12 drivers, not the newer catalyst drivers, trying to get them to retest it now.
