ASUS Maximus V Formula Windows 8.1 installation BSOD

Hi there, i`m posting on my brother`s behalf.

He has the following configuration :

Intel 2600k
16 GB 1600 MHz Corsair Ram
ASUS Maximus V Formula Mother board
Gainward GTX 460
PSU Corsair TX 650

The thing is , Windows 7/8 works just fine. But when ever he tries to install Windows 8.1 or upgrade to it from 8 the PC goes blue screen after the firs restart when the installation sets up devices.

He tried UEFI and Legacy install, both end up in BSOD when installing Windows 8.1.

Already tried BIOS defaults, and already has the latest BIOS from ASUS site, is the MB broken and should RMA it ?

Hello

What is the message displayed when the BSOD happens? If Win7/8 work fine there is nothing wrong with the motherboard and a RMA would not be a viable option.

He was using the original DVD, but for now it`s a success.

He deactivated every non essential device from the BIOS (soundcard, lan etc) and managed to install without BSOD, now he will activate each in turns to see what device actually made the system BSOD.

It turned out to be the "Wireless PCI-E card" , so deactivating the Wireless card solved the BSOD on install.
