Intel makes several WLAN cards. Decide whether you want one with integrated bluetooth- that narrows it down to one of two categories. After that, match the stream capacity to your router (single stream = 150Mbps, dual stream = 300Mbps), and you should be able to zero in on a specific card that suits your needs.

If you have any kind of lag, including audio dropouts, glitchy looking online video, jerky mouse movements, freezing browser . . . that sort of thing. AND you have the Atheros WiFi/BT combo card, and you have not updated your driver for it, then:

    1. Download Atheros 9.2.1.432 and extract the contents to an empty folder.

    2. Uninstall your current Atheros WiFi driver, either from Control Panel >> Programs and Features (if you have it there) or from the Device Manager >> Network Adapters then right click on the Atheros Wifi and Uninstall.

    3. Restart your notebook

    4. When your notebook is again in Windows, run Setup.exe from the folder you extracted the driver file to.

    5. Follow the prompts then restart Windows again.

Hopefully your notebook will be a bit less glitchy. At the very least, you will have a less problematic WiFi driver.

I got it: you are advising the 432 version BUT i used your signature drivers thread which include the 459!

Just wanted to say thanks JRd1st. I finally got around to tracking down the last two DPC issues on my G72gx and your post helped me fix the major one.

The other (MSFT's ACPI battery driver) is probably a lost cause, so it will stay disabled for now.

I downloaded the driver linked to, but I can't install it. I get an error message saying something to the effect of "do you have other setups running? Make sure you don't"

I'm not sure exactly what info you need from me, so please let me know

Try this - Go to the Processes tab of Task Manager and sort processes by name. Delete any instance of MSIEXEC.EXE and reattempt the installation. If it fails, do the same thing, but throw a reboot in there after deleting MSIEXEC.EXE. You don't want to see any instances of it prior to starting the installation.

If that fails, try using Windows System Restore to restore your system to an earlier time, then perform the upgrade.

Often, an installation or uninstallation require a restart in order to complete.
