Thread: G73Jh GSOD Vbios Update

  1. #491
Do I have to update my BIOS first to do this? Also, does flashing my VBios formats my HD? Sorry, just got this laptop and I got this GSOD thing quite often. Well, system restoring helps at first, but now I'm just sick of this GSOD thing I just wanna get rid of it. And yeah it happens a lot when gaming. Oh, and there are random freezes, too. The sound loop and all. sigh

it is not reccommended that hou reflash your vbios without also flashing uour bios as the new vbios was meant to work with the new bios. I had all the problems you have before reflashing, and it now runs like a champ

I have the same proble. When i try to update to the newest vga driver (cataclyst 12.4) it doesnt work. The computers acts if there wouldnt be any driver installed. I have the vbios and bios flash. I also tried to uninstall my current driver and erase the last informations with the ccleaner, unfortunately with any success. This is unbelivible that a 2k laptopn doenst work, without a new vbios that makes a vga driver update impossible. This was definitely my last asus product. I think the programmes stoped their work with the g73 forward a long, long time

yes, this is because all issues with it were fixed a long, long time ago. if you follow the instructions in this thread, you will solve the issue, it works perfect for me and countless others.

Would you like to tell me how to check if I have v93 or v93_od ? in TechPowerUP GPU-Z it says bios version is 012.020.000.032.038352 (BR038352.001). Thanks a lot for response!

Hello. I'm new to these forums, but have owned a G73jh A2 for about 2 years now, and have had occasional GSOD problems. Having finally found what appears to be a solution here, I would like to try this fix, but am hesitant due to my general lack of technical knowledge. To put it another way, I'm scared to death that I might brick my cantankerous baby if I do something wrong.
My question(s): what kind of firmware maintenance should I do before/in addition to updating the vbios? For example, I see in a previous post that I should update my bios as well, but a couple of hours on the forum has failed to yield a link to that bios version (whatever it may be), or instructions on its installation. I keep seeing references to chipset updates, debates about the stability of different catalyst driver versions, exhortations to use driver sweeper and ati crap cleaner, etc, but all of the conversation seems to assume that I know why I need these things and what their effects on my comp's performance will be. The "drivers, apps, and how-tos" thread gives a wall of links with little to no description, and if there is any actual "how-to" it's buried in the 60+ pages of the thread. The "G73/74/53 series driver and application reference" thread is similar.
So what are the best-practices and order of operations to get my machine performing as intended?

Thanks in advance for any hand-holding. Obviously I need it!

PS: A locked sticky thread kept up to date by moderator would be incredibly helpful for this sort of thing, and apologies if something like that already exists.
