Wireless 802.11 cards.

This may be easily answered, but I have not worked with laptops much. Are the internal wireless cards a universal form factor? My wife has an Asus A73 with lousy wireless reception. Her laptop sits about 20 feet from my Asus RT-N56u router but has a lousy signal. My ROG G750 on the other hand get's a great signal upstairs. I also have an Asus N66 Extender that is extending the 5g signal upstairs, but doesn't help her A73 (non 5g).

Any recommendations?
