mPCIe Combo II Motherboard Compatibility.

Hi everyone! Let me just get straight to the point. I want to use an m.2 ssd for it's faster speeds and reasonable price. I have the Maximus V Gene, which does have support for the original mPCIe Combo with msata. I'm trying to find out if my motherboard can swap the old version for the new. And if so, will it understand the m.2 interface? Will it achieve m.2 speeds?

Thanks, have a great day!

Just finished a chat with ASUS tech support and I was told that this would absolutely work. He specified that it supports 2242 m.2 drives. I'm not sure, but doesn't 2242 just refer to the size of the ssd, not really electronic compatibility?

Did it work?

I'd like to know also if it worked. Been trying to find info about this exact setup, mPCIe combo card (Maximus V gene) with m.2 SSD (not mSATA).
