    Crosshair V Form. Q-Led CPU Red, Voltage CPU Orange

    All new retail products from newegg;

    mobo;
    ASUS Crosshair V Formula

    cpu;
    AMD Phenom II X4 980

    ram;
    G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

    PSU;
    Antec High Current Pro HCP-750 750W

    Installed all the components. Plugged in my old GPU (gforce 260 gtx). Powered up.

    Q-LED CPU - Bright red
    cpu LED voltage - Orange/Yellow
    GPU - Fan would not start

    At the time I didn't have the case buzzer plugged in so I did not hear a beap, I assumed red q-LED ment it wouldn't post.

    My next step is to swap the CPUs in this new computor with my old one (AMD Phenom II X2 550 Socket AM3), unless someone has some other helpful information.

    I'd say try with just one stick of RAM. I used the far right slot (furthest from CPU). Make sure the 8pin and 4pin connectors are attached as well.

    Try booting it.

    Hit and hold-down the CMOS reset button on the back panel for at least 10 seconds. Try again.

    When I was re-seating the cpu, when I pulled the fan off it pulled the cpu off with it. I was scared that I bent a pin and damaged the mobo locking mechanism. Pins were fine, minor damage to mobo locking mechanism.

    I was confused how that could happen. Once I got the cpu unstuck from the cooler I put it back in place. Sticking my head in the case I noticed that 1 corner was slightly elevated. I am talking like 1mm here.

    Trying over and over I couldn't get that 1 corner in right, and I was sure the oriontation was correct!

    I played with the locking mechanism a bit and what I noticed was that when the thing is fully open, (the little lever arm being as far back as possible) it is actually partially closed. I put the lever arm straight up noticed this represented the most open state. Put the cpu in, it dropped into place on the first try smooth as a babies bottom. Locked it up cpu fan back on.

    GLORIOUS POST! No errors!

    Then entered bios to make sure stuff was good there. Lock up.
    WTF why is bios locking up, ok just a fluke.
    Bios would lock up every time I entered it after about 20-30 seconds.

    Tried installing windows, it would lock up during install, during setup, or login.
    And now I start getting q-led RAM. WHAT! RAWR.

    Took out all but 1 stick. Still q-led RAM.
    Moved teh stick to a different dim slot. Post, glorious post... but for how long?

    Ok so I have windows 7 installed, SP1, all my drivers, the whole thing. Last thing I am doing is updating my bios, and then plugging in 1 more stick of ram at a time.

    will report what happened.
