The only answer I could come up with is that the repsective companies just marketed the hell out of their consoles. In every other area I could think of consoles fell flat on their faces.
Performance: PC
-no explanation needed
Cost: PC
-The cost of a PC is more than a console, but a computer is a necessity. You can spend $500-$600 on an extremely basic computer and $200-$300 on a console. Or... You can spend $800-$1000 on a decent gaming/general use computer that will be useable longer than the bargain computer and have more performance than a console.
Free multiplayer: PC
-In most cases online is free for the PC. Consoles require a supscription.
Let's not forget that PCs get mods.
Some people might claim that consoles are more popular because they are simple to set up. I built my first computer without any problems or help.
Maybe we could convince AMD, Nvidia, and Intel to collectively market the PC for gaming. They get more profit, we get more gaming peers and actual PC games. It's a win-win.
