G74SX repair & upgrade.

Greetings all,

I recently fixed my G74SX and have it in working order, however I have several items I would like to address.

Two items within the machine are broken - the left key beneath the touchpad stopped working, and the right key
is definitely losing action. The touchpad itself is still responsive.

There is a broken SD card reader, which is situated on the right side - the machine fell off the bed one night,
and my SD card, which needed an adapter to fit into the slot, forced right past the locking mechanism and made the
reader inoperable. Would I be able to repair the touchpad keys and/or card reader?

Last, I have a question concerning a potential augmenting of the computer's RAM - I currently have 16 GB of RAM in the machine
(two stock 4GB DDR3 sticks and one Kingston 8GB DDR3 stick). I don't play videogames much anymore, yet I would
like to have a laptop that can at least host a number of different programmes and operations with some memory to spare.
Should I add another 8GB stick of RAM, or even a 16 GB stick (if the latter is at all possible)?

Are there any other upgrades or concerns I can apply? Thank you very much.

I think you can find a new track pad on ebay. on the ram I think you should match up to what you have so that it can run dual channel. Another 8 will give you 24 GB. Then again since you'll have the notebook open to replace the track pad you could put in 32GB 4 8GB Matching of course. Really unless your running several VM there is not much else that could use more than 16 GB. If you don't have a SSD in that would be a definite for sure upgrade. The only one you would actually notice.

Thank you very much for your reply.

I decided I won't upgrade the RAM and will use an external mouse until I get the money to purchase another touchpad. I could also purchase a USB-
to-SD reader for the mean time, yet I would like to correct the broken/jammed reader on the motherboard eventually.

Just now, while testing the computer without its AC adapter, the computer suddenly turned off when the battery's power diminished to
37 per cent. Would someone be able to better diagnose what is causing this loss of power?

Sorry for the duplicate post, my wireless signal went out while I was sending the reply.
