regardless Desktop or Laptop, Nvidia's new drivers all have a default setting to voltage down the graphics card, unless 3D usage occurs, by going to Nvidia control panel - Manage 3D settings - and locating "Power Management mode" to switch it to Prefer Maximum Performance, the fail and recovering of this driver will persist frequent, although I am currently testing this setting on my Asus Maximums Extreme-Z board with 2x ASUs 560OC, i feel pretty confident this will cut back if not solve the problem of this driver failing, i came from 285.62 to the 290.36 driver in means of trying to solve the problem when it occurred on the 285.62 driver. I will update in a few days on if this simple setting change solves the problem for me.

Switching Powermixer off has worked for me and stopped all of my constant display driver crashes. Thanks for posting that info, I've been suffering with constant TDRs for months and was about to RMA my machine.

Been having a little hickup's myself. So I went with 301.42 through the ASUS website (2 ASUS 560 ti) and have had no issues/hickup's.
Of course I do not have mine set with Max Performance in the Nvidia setting. But all in all it runs the games nice.
Next step is 2 more monitors.
