Win7: Know the DDR3 memory limits!

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/libr...(v=vs.85).aspx

    Theoretical limits:
32-bit Windows: 4GB of system memory (including graphics)
    64-bit Windows: 8TB

Real-world limits of each OS version:

    Version Windows 7 Ultimate x64
    192 GB
    Windows 7 Enterprise x64
    192 GB
    Windows 7 Professional x64
    192 GB
    Windows 7 Home Premium x64
    16 GB

    Windows 7 Home Basic x64
    8 GB
    Windows 7 Starter
    2 GB

For many users running Home Premium x64 and also Rampage motherboards with very large memory: 24GB/32GB/64GB - you will need to run Professional or Ultimate to make full use of the memory space.

When I get reeeally sad about missing someone far away, I just take a deep cleansing breath, then switch to the rifle with a scope.

    What if

What if you have W7 Ultimate 64bit on a Rampage 3 extreme and you install 24Gb of ram but only shows 16GB?

Then two things, either your ram is not seated correctly or you have faulty hardware.

Use the memtest86+ guide in my sig to find out which.

This is a little weird, I've just finished my new build using Win7 Pro, I installed 4 sticks of 4GB Kingston HyperX and the BIOS shows

However, I am only showing 8GB here

    Any suggestion?
