Overclocking 3770k help

Hey guys, just picked up a 3770k and trying to overclock on my Maximus V Extreme. I copied the settings posted by "nikolai" in this thread https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?29920-Is-this-a-Safe-24-7-Overclock-Maximus-V-Extreme-i7-3...

I am at 4.5 but my question is as follows: I ran into some instability when my Offset symbol was " - ", so he suggested using " + " and that seemed to do the trick. What's the difference here? And should I try adding more voltage to achieve the " - " symbol? I'm a noob so please elaborate. Ran prime 95 with HWtemp max temp of 65 after 1 hour of stress testing. also using an H100i GTX. Do these temps look ok for this kind of cooler? Thanks

Using the + sign you add voltage to load and idle, using the - sign you're subtracting voltage from load and idle.

I would recommend using ROG realbench for stress testing, your temps will be much lower even though 65c is perfectly fine.

what tests and for how long? I just did Prime 95 Blend for 12 hours without errors, and Small FTT for 8.5 hours without errors with a + 0.010 offset. When I had a +0.005 offset, the Blend test survived 12 hours but Prime95 crashed within 20 minutes on the Small FTT test.

Are my voltages acceptable? Should i return to the - 0.005 and use realbench? agh lol

You should first overclock processor and check stability test while RAM is on default settings, 1333MHz...
When you find ideal clock for you, than you should increase RAM speed. It's possible to show error because tight latency, or to higher frequency.
I do on that way, I have very nice i7-3770K stable on 4.5GHz on 1200V... That's still strong and very nice platform...
For me better than Sandy and than Haswell. Sandy was nice for OC because better heat transfer and less temperature, but platform was not better overclocked than Ivy, mybe 100MHz avarege... but Ivy had other better features, more important almost same as Haswell but better overclocker... Haswell only 4790K keeping on 4.5GHz... I'm sorry because I didn't keep Ivy one year more, because platform is still very strong after 3 year, overclocked very close 4790K, I boought litterary 1st month after launch, but I didn't want to miss such good chance as X99 and 5820K 6 cores... iF Intel give all processors with 40 lanes next time platform will cost much more, and Broadwell go up to 650$...
and I found 5820K almost as i5-4690K... Now at least I can get some nice money for Z77 platform, If I wait more, price will go down when DDR4 become standard everywhere.

You don't have to run a stress test for 12 hours, you can select the 15 minute stress test in realbench. I'm not sure of your overclock and voltage but if you can keep temps under control intel states 1.52v max for the 3770k.

Here is my overclock.

I overclocked from 3.5 to 4.5 and the system says Min voltage is 0.936 current - 1.128 and MAX 1.152 my idle temps are around 30. If you click the link above, I used the EXACT settings from those pics except i changed my offset to + 0.010

That looks really good to me.

I'm not sure if I'm doing this right. Your temps at 5GHZ are around 30 and so are mine at 4.5. Did I do something wrong?

Do those voltages seem OK? And I'm trying to ensure 100% stability. So I'll try ROG Bench. But you achieved 5 GHZ? that must require much more voltage?
