Relevant build details:
MB: Maximus VIII Impact
PSU: Silverstone SFX Series SX600-G 600W
Issue: New build - I was not getting any Qcode or display or passing POST, and my BIOS flashback button slowly pulses blue.
So;
- I removed power
- Removed my ram, GPU, CPU, SSD, 8 pin 12V power connector, etc
- I left ONLY the 24pin power supply connected to my motherboard and powered up, on a non conductive clean surface.
There was no change.
- I decided to clear CMOS.
No change.
- Cycled power
No change
- I download and flash the latest BIOS.
BIOS flashback button pulsed blue rapidly for a time, then returned to a slow pulse.
- I re-download the BIOS file and flashed from a different USB.
Same result.
- I tried the 'paper clip' test on the PSU both with and without the 24 pin cable.
PSU fan never spun up (however i didnt have anything to apply load to the PSU with, and have read that some need a load for this test to work)
- I went and got a multimeter to measure the voltage of each of the 24 pins.
On the 24 pin connector, one pin had 5V, one had 3.5V, the others all had 0.
The pin that should have been supply-ON, and brought low to start the PSU supplying power was already low.
No other voltages were present on any of the PSUs pins.
- As a last ditch test i tired shorting the 5V pin that was working to GND.
Nothing
- Also tried the 3V
Nothing
- Using the multimeter i checked the supply cable to the PSU
its fine.
My only ideas are as follows:
a) The Mobo bios is corrupt, flashback is not working, and my PSU needs a load for the paperclip test (Unlikely?)
b) The PSU is no good
c) The MB 24 pin header or its control of it is no good.
Thought/ideas please!!
