    AMD FX-8120 Zambezi Temperature?

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but a bunch of you helped me with my Motherboard issue and since it connects to the motherboard... I hope it is the right section.

I have the FX-8120 on my Crosshair V Formula, And the temperature is... Kind of funky, This was my first build and not sure if they are good or bad. + I have a program inconsistency.

AMD Overdrive: Shows a constant 45-55. I have never seen it hit 60, And it shows each core separately.

AI Suite II: Keeps showing me popup alerts (Warnings) that my processor has hit CPU temperature 65.0 centigrade. It never goes above but just stays constantly at 65.

AI Suite warns me even when I have nothing running but a VLC video... So I would like to know what is the temp my processor needs to be for it not to EXPLODE! :P But yeah is 65 even bad? I have the default Heatsink on it and my case is the Antec DF-85... I didn't think I was going to need an aftermarket heatsink when I didn't overclock at all.

    Thanks for any help!
    Current Setup:

FX 8120 AKA Bulldozer AKA Zambezi
    Crosshair Vengeance 8GB (2x4)
    XFX AMD Radeon 6950 2GB
    PC Power & Cooling Silencer MK|| 950W
    Antec Darkfleet (DF-85)

Try going into bios and disableing Turbo core and also disable all Power saving in BIOS in the CPU config section under advanced disable all those. i.e Cool N Quite etc.

Im thinking that your case isnt exhausting the air well enough and if your using Turbo then yeah it will heat up good. I think that warning is from the CPU socket temp. The cores most likely arent that hot since the socket will run hotter. AMD says for our CPU's that max Core(s) temp is 62c

Download HWMonitor from CPUID version 1.18.5

Tell me what the CPU temp is which is aka Socket temps, These dont really matter much but the Cores temp is what ya need to look at, The HWmonitor program that measures cores isnt accurate until it reaches about 35c. this is by AMD design i think

But in all I would Indeed get a aftermarket cooler, I think you should get the one I have a Antec Kuhler H20 620 they cost about 59 dollars and work great, I would also get an extra 120mm fan for it also. Then you can set it up in a push/pull config it helps this little cooler alot.

Here below are my temps since we have the same Mobo and CPU. This below is with the Antec Kuhler H20 620, With an additional 120mm fan (1200RPM Push), The first fan that comes with it is at 1400RPM Pull, I have it setup with the radiator tubes at the bottom and fans are setup as Intake.

CPU Voltage: AUTO = 1.3750 (This is my 8120 VID), No OC'ing its running no Turbo no power savings and its at 3100MHz

    HWMonitor 1.18.5:

    Ambient 25c

CPU (Socket temp) : 36c Idle / Full load using IBT is about : 52c

All 8 cores are : 16c Idle (notice how the core(s) temp arent accurate, it wont be until about 35c) / Full Load using IBT on core(s) is about : 38-40c

My PC case is a Antec Three Hundred : 1 Top Exhaust Fan 140mm at 1600RPM , 1 Front Intake 120mm Fan at 1600RPM

Ok so I got HWMonitor and these are my readings.

    Temp - CPU: Value 54 C, MIN 53 C, MAX 54 C

    Core Temps: Value 40 C, MIN 38 C, MAX 41/42 C

This is "idle" where I just have VLC running a video and some messengers ETC... Nothing big.

Note: I did update my BIOS to 1003, And the AI Suite II has started actually updating the temp. It hasn't hit 65 yet. Of course I haven't played anything since the update but Minecraft which brings it up to 60-61. I will look into Aftermarket Headsinks since it seems that I never go below 35 and it seems I should be.

You might want to only have a single application running at any one time that monitors temps. Running two or more applications concurrently can cause conflicts between the two (or more) and result in none providing accurate readings.

HWMonitor is very good for that platform. I would use it over AI suite to be honest.

I'm pretty sure you should keep these things below 60c.
Stock cooler may not be up to it.

My hits 50c playing BF3, but that's with a custom WC loop.
The closed loop coolers are a decent option, but you may want to try re-seating the cooler 1st to make sure it made good contact.

Running a well vented case with good airflow and a Kuler H2O 920

I've got all power saving BIOS stuff turned off so never go onto low clock speed mode.

    Latest official BIOS version

Got my CPU @200x20.5 on auto voltage and run a max of 48C (coretemp) whilst battering it on BF3 for 2+ hours.

Ok thanks for all the information. I will be investing in an Aftermarket Cooler.

    same processor

Im using that same processor, and it originally was idleing at around 50C and causing freezing, until i undervoled it. Now it still freezes after an hour or so of playing SW:tOR. Ive got no idea what the problem is at this point.

Hi wmharris96 what cooling are you using and what are your settings in the bios? Without that kind of detail it is difficult to offer any kind of worthwhile comment.
