If you are thinking of performing on a clean install, the windows 7 iso file will work. You'll need to burn it into a CD.

To activate Win7 when the installations is done, you type in the serial number (under your laptop there is a microsoft certified label, with serial number).

I would pm @BrodyBoy and ask him for which drivers you should start to install (he got a list that you can follow) after a clean install of Win7.

But one important thing is to backup all important files you got!

And also another thing you should notice is which touchpad driver you have. If you install the wrong one, then you can get a very buggy mouse. Synaptics or Sentelic touchpad driver deliver.

Uhm.... Microsoft installs a plug'n'play driver on different devices so it works, but it will be buggy/ not optimized.

No, that doesn't refer to an AMD CPU. Many 64-bit system files have "amd64" in the name, as distinguished from their 32-bit counterparts that are designated with "x86" in their filenames.

I got a question about the clean install. I tried doing a clean install on my friend's acer laptop, but the serial key would not work. I searched online and found out that the serial key provided would only work on the windows os provided by acer (you cant use it on regular versions). Any idea if thats the same case with asus?

Did you use the Win7 HP iso from this site? Also you have to be sure that when you do a clean install, the Win7 have to be the same as the current version on the notebook.
Example: You will get issue with useing a Win7 Home premium key on Win7 Premium.

I used one that @Chastity had once, but the link s/he's providing doesn't work. So the link from @Jrd1st should work just fine, and use the serial number under your notebook.

I didnt use the iso from the abovementioned site, but rest assured, the iso i used was a genuine windows installation from microsoft. And yes, i made sure that the windows version was the same. I havent tried the iso @Jrd1st posted yet, still downloading it

Edit: The iso was from the same site. Maybe it didnt work because it wasnt with service pack 1?

I don't think that doesn't matter, but could be the reason.

Just be sure when you're installing Win7 HP, be sure not to overwrite or uninstall the recovery partiton. It's good to have if you want to recover your notebook back to factory settings.
