Rampage IV Extreme 00 Code After Shut Down

Strange problem – every time I shut down post is stuck at 00 code when powering back up. Warm restarts are not a problem. I clear it by disconnecting power from the motherboard. System is 100% stable once powered up. Passes Prime95 with flying colors and all other benchmarks, mem test, etc. Using 1005 bios.

I did a lot of testing and was able narrow it down to the “turbo mode”. Basically anything besides turbo=auto does not work regardless of memory settings or turbo ratio settings.

Here is what I have tried:

Load F5 defaults – 5 shutdown cycles - all OK
Loaded recommended memory timings “11 11 11 31 2N” and tested 5 shutdown cycles for every speed from 1300 to 2400 (XMP) - all OK. (Turbo Ratio=AUTO)

Now the problem:

Setting Turbo Ratio to anything other than AUTO caused the code 00 cold start bug. Using turbo = auto mode PC runs at 3800 once it is booted up.

Even setting it to 33x100 causes the same issue.

If I disable turbo and limit CPU to 3200 all OK, but even at 3300 I get the code 00 cold start bugs.

Looks to me like ether the BIOS, the motherboard, or the CPU problem. I'm thinking BIOS.

At this point I tried all recommended scenarios and then some. Any other deas? Thanks!

Root cause found, but not solution
I have two crossfired HD 6990s video cards and with three ASUS VE278Q monitors setup in Eyefinity configuration. The monitors are connected to video cards using three display port cables.

The monitors, video cards, and cable are all proven items from my prior build.

I have three following issues:
1. I cannot switch to the second BIOS via the BIOS button - this happens even on default BIOS settings.
2. Randomly disappearing USB 3.0 controllers – this happens even on default BIOS settings.
3. Code 00 cold boot problem if any CPU related performance options (clock, blck, etc) are set to any values other than defaults. As I had stated previously anything besides turbo=auto does not work regardless of memory settings or turbo ratio settings.


Root cause:
Disconnecting two of three display port cables resolves all three problems.
It does not matter which of the two cables I disconnect or which of the two video cards I use. I have tried every permutation of video cards, crossfire settings, cables, and monitors with exact same results.

I still think it is somehow related to the chipset, motherboard, or the BIOS. Bizarre issue...

Please do us a favor and list your specs here. I checked your link but could not find them readily. it would be easier to see them here for trouble shooting.

Wow, that's one hellava awesome system you've got there. I have had similar probs in the past, caused by either PSU or mem card reader. I'm not saying that is your prob, but:
1. Try disconnecting everything that is not essential to boot, including use minimum RAM (slots as directed by the manual). I suggest you even unplug one vid card, you can leave the tubing connected to do that, be sure to disconnect it from the PSU as well. Does the issue persist?
2. Can you try a different brand PSU? I have a CM Silent Power Pro that doesn't play well W/Asus boards.

Also, did you plug in the EZ_plug_1 and EZ_plug_2 connectors? What about the CPU aux power connectors (4-pin EPS12V)? How many of them did you use?

What overclock are you running?? It woudl be useful if you posted your Bios settings for this. Are you running the DDR at 2400?? because if you are you need VCCSA of 1.25 ish and probably similar VTT especially if your running a big CPU overclock???

Basically what I would do first would be set XMP profile, set VCCSA to 1.25, VTT 1.25, DDR 1.65, PLL1.90 set Rampage Tweak to Mode 1 and whatever CPU voltage you need for your clock. Set clock gen filter to 20uf, save and reboot.

I would also check the LN2 jumper is disabled I had a problem with 00 code on my M4E with it enabled.

After doing this post back results. Also what bios you on???

I just completed this build, so currently running just the default gamers’ OC through BIOS. I believe it is 4.7 using XMP profile 1 at 2400. All motherboard power connectors are connected to PSU.

1005 BIOS.

I will try all the suggestions and report back sometimes tomorrow.

It is a proven 1500 watt PSU from my last build. I don’t have another PSU that could power this rig.

Pretty sure this is unrelated, but I’m getting an unknown USB device error after booting – something to do with the onboard Bluetooth (I think).

What you are experiencing is not unusual. Running the ram at 2400 with the built in Gamer's profile can sometimes need a little ironing out. Follow 8 Pack's advice first. He listed all the usual suspects when getting an overlock over 4.5ghz ironed out...especially with overclocked memory. I need the VCCSA, VTT, Mode 1, and 20UF settings to cure my boot issues.

Roadczar when I posted my first recommendation I was assuming you hadn't OCd. I see now obviously you have a bad setting somewhere, or need those connectors plugged in. You could also try adjusting the CPU Vcore BOOT V.

Please do the following.

Disconnect one of your graphic cards and that includes the PCi power connectors. Try and duplicate the issue of cold boot error code 00.
