I fully understand that Home Premium will be fine for majority of users. In fact, keep it as the default option when customizing the ROG laptop. But just add the option to go Barebone. That way power users/gamers can choose their own OS and the majority can keep their home premium.
And it would really be useful if Asus set up a webshop, sort of what Dell does. If you want to order an Alienware you can just go and customize it on the official site. If you want an Asus you'll have to find a retailer who sells what you need. And that's not easy (given that most retailers don't even know what they are selling), especially out of the USA. I've been struggling to find a G74SX with an UK keyboard and a 2670 cpu and no 3d screen for weeks now...
+1 for the OS + bloatware option although I'd go with Home Premium (without bloatware of course)
Must have hardware:
Wireless that doesn't suck - Intel, period.
HDMI,
eSATA
OPTICAL OUT + 4 analog input/output audio
A calculator key is nice, but a numlock is necessary
a matte screen option
a real BIOS, a not this .. .. thing
a synaptics touchpad.
software:
1.none. that means. no asus crapware. not even windows. on should have the option to buy or not windows (there are people using linux out there - i'm not the case)
2.having ALL the Fn keys controlled by the BIOS.
and finally a super hiper mega battery! i don't care if it is heavier: look at alienware. the battery is the double so they have 5 hours! if it is a giant laptop at least let me have super performance and a nice mobility! i'm paying for all that!

Absolutely. As Xero suggested people don't install Linux to play games. But its not just gamers who buy DTRs. Many install Linux on these machines because it is the OS with the stick-shift, which allows users to customize and
control a powerful combination of gaming hardware like the G74. What other OS gives you the ability to recompile its entire kernel from source code to fully exploit every capability?
I don't want to have to collect windows license keys that I'll never use each time I buy a machine for my lab. Having a barebones option available would save alternative OS users an extra expense. In fact, I would vote for a Linux option too, even if it was associated with a charge!
If only they would listen to what gamers want. if I'm handing over 1k-2k of my hard earned dollars the least they can do is build a true desktop replacement.
Does anyone know how to go about getting the message in this thread to the designers of RoG Laptops? I just saw the preview of the G75 and while the user accessible vents are a nice touch , a LOT more is needed.
yes I do ... and you (all) Just did...
do not think for a second that This goes un noticed.
This is why I believe it is so important to focus on the cures as in this thread.
This would be great if. Not, this sucks because.. hahaha..
Not a wasted byte.
Live Marketing Data... its in there.c.
Just found a reason to want Win7 Pro over Home Premium.
Offline Files (Sync)
This feature is only available to Professional and higher. This is what you need if you want to keep a folder on your laptop (such as Music) synced to the music folder on your home server. As it stands, because I have only Home Premium, I have to use an outdated app to do it and it has to be run everytime I want to do a check.
Just in case a designer thinks no gamer would ever want Pro over home premium.
