For years, people have tried to replace the keyboard and mouse by making so-called superior gaming controllers (even I’ve tried… everything), and yet they are still here. Gamers want superior controls, and the keyboard plus mouse combination is simply unbeatable to this day. The key reasons for their superiority are the speed and precision, as new technology becomes available, these are the exact reasons why new weapons are continually forged for you to take into battle. ASUS ROG has just added Sica and Whetstone to the peripherals portfolio. The Sica mouse is named after a short sword or a larger dagger, while the Whetstone mouse pad is named after the tool used for sharpening weapons, thus making them a perfect match.
The GL552 is a 15-inch ROG gaming laptop, sporting the latest brushed aluminum styling and red back-lit keyboard, combined with an Intel Core i7-4720HQ quad-core processor and new Nvidia GTX 950M graphics. With up to 16GB of DDR3L memory, a huge 2TB of storage and M.2 SSD options as well it’s got desktop-spec credentials and storage performance. The premium audio-visual experience is backed by a Full HD IPS display that yields great color and viewing angles, along with ASUS’ tuned SonicMaster audio. On the networking front ROG’s exclusive GameFirst III software allows user customization of network traffic to prioritize gameplay or other apps.
There’s our quick round-up, but if you’re after more details and full specs see inside for the gallery and press release.
We’ve read your forum posts, your Facebook comments and emails; as one of our most popular articles ever we know you loved the GX500 when we showed it at Computex last year. Yet, as perfectionists, ROG engineers decided to continue to improve areas of the design. The result is the new G501, which is an evolution of the earlier ‘500. Where the GX500 wow’d at Computex by breaking boundaries on thinness, weight and performance, the G501 has these and more; we’ve made it even cooler, quieter and we’ve refreshed the hardware inside too.
The Strix 7.1 Surround Gaming Headset is a new premium gaming headset with true 7.1 surround sound, a noise-cancelling microphone, and a plug-and-play audio station with comprehensive controls. Even though it is classified as a gaming headset it is even a compelling alternative to buying an amplifier, a subwoofer, a center speaker, a pair of front speakers, a pair of rear speakers and a pair of surround side speakers; in many ways this is a more appealing option than a complete 7.1 channel home theater system. Check it out as we unbox it and talk through its many features.
The Strix GTX 960 is a new performance-mainstream graphics card, with a 1,291MHz factory-overclocked GPU and 1,317MHz GPU boost clock in OC mode, giving it a 12% faster than reference boost. The Strix cooler still features the critically acclaimed 0dB design in low temperature (and power) modes, with dual fans keeping cool under heavy gaming loads. The short design and PCB is great for smaller systems, yet it still has a multitude of display connections including three DP, one HDMI And one DVI.
