ROG is a regular fixture at PAX West, but it’s been three years since we made the pilgrimage to PAX East. That changes for 2018, though, because we’re packing up and headed for Boston this week!
The Republic of Gamers team will be on-site in the exhibitor hall in a big black-and-red booth that you won’t be able to miss as you come down the main stairs. We’ll have a host of new hardware for attendees to check out, including some that hasn’t even been announced and is set to make its debut this week. This is your chance to get a look at upcoming ROG hardware before it’s in stores, and to try it out before anyone else has the chance.
The star of the show is undoubtedly the ROG Zephyrus M GM501, our newly announced slim and sleek gaming ultrabook. The GM501 crams Intel’s latest Core i7-8750H CPU and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 GPU into a package that measures less than 0.8” thick and uses an innovative thermal solution to stay cool. When you open the GM501, a separate hinge opens up the back of the laptop for better airflow. This 9-mm gap allows the fan to draw in more air to keep the internal components from overheating. It’s functional, but it’s also sexy as hell to see in action. If you’re at the show, you can get a glimpse of the Zephyrus M before it’s even in stores.
If you prefer to hunker down at home but don’t have a ton of space, the GM501 will be joined in our booth by the ROG Strix GL12 gaming desktop. First unveiled at CES in January, the GL12 is small enough for bedrooms or home offices where real estate is at a premium. Its compact chassis makes it easy for transporting to and from LANs and esports tournaments, too. Don’t let its size fool you, though; the GL12 is potent enough for the most demanding gaming experiences, like VR and gaming at high refresh rates. Our top of the line configuration features a factory-overclocked Core i7-8700K CPU and NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 1080 GPU. It’s also got a hot-swap SSD bay that makes switching out drives a snap, and support for Aura Sync is on hand to ensure your rig matches the rest of your peripherals.
The GL12 will conduct full orchestra of Aura Sync hardware and peripherals, all glowing in perfectly matched harmony. We’ll be showing off the new ROG Strix Flare keyboard, the Gladius II mouse, and the stunning ROG Strix XG35VQ curved display. We’ll also have a few more Aura Sync goodies, like our RGB strips and the Aura Terminal, which allow you to extend your lighting beyond your rig and into the environment around you.
If you’re looking to take some other gear for a test drive, we’ll have some of our favorite systems ready for you to play, like the diminutive ROG GR8 II, as well as our ROG Strix Hero and ROG Strix Scar gaming laptops. These will be on display at the booth alongside partner builds from AVA, Cybertron, and Digital Storm. The GR8 II is cute as a button but still powerful enough for VR. The ROG Strix Hero and Scar laptops can fuel your virtual reality dreams too, but they’re really made for gaming on the go. Kitted out with the latest Intel CPUs, NVIDIA GTX 10-series graphics, and high-refresh displays, they’re ideal for churning out triple-digit frame rates in esports classics.
Of course, we know what you really want is to bring some new toys home with you. Rest assured, there’s plenty of goodies up for grabs at the ROG booth. We’ll have ROG Elite Rewards challenges that you can complete on-site for a chance to win peripherals each day. You’ll need four stamps on your card to be entered into the draw, but complete all seven activities and you’ll earn some awesome ROG swag. You can also enter to win your very own ROG Zephyrus M GM501. All you have to do is snap a picture next to the drop crate in our booth and share it on social media with the hashtag #ROGWinnerWinner. This’ll put your name in the hat for a random draw at the end of the show.
Free stuff and brand spanking new hardware aside, streamer LIRIK will be hanging out at our booth between 2pm and 3pm on April 5th to meet with fans. If you want to demonstrate your skills and compete for prizes, you’ll be able to play PUBG duo and team up for some 3v3 in Overwatch.
PAX East attendees will also be the first to get their hands on our new 2018 line of ROGxMeta clothing. This collection is exclusive to Meta Threads, so you won’t be able to find it in stores. If you’re not going to PAX, you can still shop online, but you won’t have the opportunity to see the pieces in person before you buy. The 2018 collection includes cuts for men and women as well as some pieces made especially for staying comfortable while gaming. You can check out the entire line here.
If you’re headed to PAX East, we’d love to see you! The show kicks off on April 5th at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. We’ll be there Thursday through Sunday from 10am to 6pm each day. Drop by booth #16001 and say hi. If you’re not able to make it, be sure to follow us on Twitter and Facebook for the latest from the show. On Friday, April 7th, we’ll be live-streaming on Instagram, and on Saturday you can catch some on-the-scene action from our booth on Facebook Live.
